Objectives
To investigate the role of proteoglycans (PGs) on the physical properties of the dentin matrix and the bond strength of methacrylate resins with varying hydrophilicities.
Methods
Dentin were obtained from crowns of human molars. Enzymatic removal of PGs followed a standard protocol using 1 mg/mL trypsin (Try) for 24 h. Controls were incubated in ammonium bicarbonate buffer. Removal of PGs was assessed by visualization of glycosaminoglycan chains (GAGs) in dentin under transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The dentin matrix swelling ratio was estimated using fully demineralized dentin. Dentin wettability was assessed on wet, dry and re-wetted dentin surfaces through water …

Responses Of Swine Associated Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus Against Human Lung Carcinoma Epithelial Cell Line A549, Min Tao Wan, Chin Cheng Chou
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) has been shown to adhere, invade, and induce the death of various host cells. The prominent lineage of livestock-associated methicillin-resistant S. aureus (LA-MRSA) in Asia is the sequence type (ST) 9 that has emerged as a potential zoonotic pathogen. However, the virulence of LA-MRSA ST9 remains not clear. In this study, sixteen representative Taiwan LA-MRSA isolates were selected for adherence, invasion, and cytotoxicity studies against the human lung carcinoma epithelial cell line A549. The isolates showed 100% of cytotoxicity, 35.2% - 61% of adhesion, and 18% - 52.5% of invasion against A549 cells. Different adherent abilities …

Cell is the fundamental structural and functional unit of complex multicellular organisms. Conventional methods which involve average analysis of cells in bulk populations can undermine physiologically significant cell populations, whereas analysis of cells at a single cell level may reveal unique biomarkers and other mechanisms that govern the genotype and phenotype in various physiological processes in presumed homogenous cell populations. Cellular abnormalities such as irregularities in cellular mechanisms have been linked to human aging and other major diseases including neurodegenerative, vascular, autoimmune, and cancer. Aging is a functional decline associated with various diseases in an organism, majorly arising from cellular …

Background/aim: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of trans-abdominal ultrasonography (USG), a noninvasive diagnostic tool, in predicting the presence of intraabdominal adhesions, especially near the trocar entry area, to provide safe surgical access to the abdomen. Materials and methods: Fifty-nine women with a previous history of open abdominal surgery (group A) and a group of 91 women with no previous history of surgery (group B) underwent dynamic ultrasound evaluation of the abdominal fields before laparoscopic operations. The anterior abdominal wall was divided into six quadrants: right upper, right lower, left upper, left lower, suprapubic, and umbilical. …
