The basis of this research project comes from data collected on a BYU Anthropology field school in Vietnam during the summer of 2015. The data consisted of eight in-depth interviews with Hmong women who had given birth within the last eighteen months. The focus of the interviews was on their experience giving birth and what that experience meant to them. The purpose of this research is to educate healthcare providers on the perceptions of the Hmong women interviewed so as to better accommodate to their preferences.

This pilot study conducted with Disability Research and Capacity Development in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, found that women with disabilities (WWD) reported significant experiences with abuse and harassment. Analysis of these findings revealed that the abuse and harassment of WWD is directly connected to the complex roles that gender and disability hold within Vietnamese society. Vietnam is a patriarchal society and WWD experienced abuse and harassment due to their roles as women; their expressions of gender and sexuality in connection with disability; and their desire for participation in processes such as sex, intimacy, and childbearing. Rigorous evaluations of health system-based interventions in large-scale programs to improve complementary feeding (CF) practices are limited. Alive & Thrive applied principles of social franchising within the government health system in Vietnam to improve the quality of interpersonal counseling (IPC) for infant and young child feeding combined with a national mass media (MM) campaign and community mobilization (CM). Background: Child linear growth sometimes improves in both intervention and comparison groups in evaluations of nutrition interventions, possibly because of spillover intervention effects to nonintervention areas or improvements in underlying determinants of nutritional change in both areas.

This brief covers political structure, internal challenges, and external challenges in Vietnam, as well as epidemiology, identification, intervention, challenges, and suggestions regarding dengue fever throughout Vietnam. Dengue fever, a mosquito-borne viral disease, is a leading cause of illness and death in tropical and subtropical countries. Climate variability and change has significantly increased the vector population in Vietnam, and the effects are most significant in peri-urban/rural urban areas. Dengue-related signs include flu-symptoms, leading to undiagnosed dengue fever.
