Balloon valvuloplasty for correction of congenital pulmonic stenosis (PS) in two dogs by intervention technique was first reported in Thailand. Both dogs did not show any clinical signs related to congestive heart failure. Physical examination in both dogs revealed heart murmur. Electrocardiographs of both dogs were recorded and showed normal sinus rhythm with deep S wave. In the first dog, thoracic radiograph revealed cardiomegaly with enlargement of the main pulmonary artery and left deviation of the apex due to right ventricular enlargement. Definitive diagnosis of PS was performed by echocardiography. Computed tomography (CT) of both dogs demonstrated stenosis of the …

Effectiveness Of Disease Modifying Osteoarthritis Agents And Carprofen For Treatment Of Canine Osteoarthritis, Irin Kwananocha, Monchanok Vijarnsorn, Narudee Kashemsant, Chalermpol Lekcharoensuk

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

A prospective, randomized, single-blinded study was conducted to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of disease modifying osteoarthritis agents (DMOAAs) and carprofen by using force plate gait analysis and orthopaedic assessment score (OAS) in osteoarthritic dogs. Forty dogs with hip and/or stifle osteoarthritis (OA) were assigned randomly into four treatment groups: PCSO-524, treated with a marine-based fatty-acid compound; GC-ASU, treated with a combination of glucosamine-chondroitin sulphate and avocado/soybean unsaponifiables; CPF, treated with carprofen; and CPF-PCSO, treated with a combination of carprofen and PCSO-524. Each group received the therapeutic agent orally for four weeks. Peak vertical force (PVF), OAS, haematology and blood …

Ameliorative Effects Of Omega-3 Concentrate In Managing Coxofemoral Osteoarthritic Pain In Dogs, Amornrate Sastravaha, Nirut Suwanna, Chayakrit Sinthusingha, Jatuporn Noosud, Atthaporn Roongsitthichai Jun 2016

Ameliorative Effects Of Omega-3 Concentrate In Managing Coxofemoral Osteoarthritic Pain In Dogs, Amornrate Sastravaha, Nirut Suwanna, Chayakrit Sinthusingha, Jatuporn Noosud, Atthaporn Roongsitthichai

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of omega-3 concentrate on pain management in dogs with osteoarthritis (OA) at the coxofemoral joint. Totally, 31 dogs with confirmed coxofemoral OA were orthopedically evaluated for pain scores at walk and trot (1-6), joint manipulation (1-3), and examining range of motion (1-4). Besides, blood collection was performed on the first and the last visits. Omega-3 concentrate was orally given to all dogs at one capsule per 10 kgBW since the first visit on a daily basis for four consecutive weeks. On a weekly basis, pain scores were assessed for …

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

Canine influenza viruses (CIVs) have been reported in dogs worldwide. Due to the relatively high risk of influenza A virus (IAV) infections in dogs and humans through dog-human interface, the seroprevalence of IAVs in dogs in Thailand was surveyed. A serological survey of IAV infections in dogs in Thailand was conducted from December 2012 to November 2013 using ELISA assays for detecting anti-nucleoprotein (NP) antibodies (NP-ELISA) and hemagglutination inhibition (HI) tests for detecting HA-specific antibodies using canine H3N2 (CIV-H3N2), human pandemic H1N1 2009 (Human-pH1N1) and human seasonal H3N2 (Human-H3N2) as viral antigens. A total of 9,891 serum samples were obtained …
