PEP Program Investigation With Men's Lacrosse Team

Research poster stemming from IPEC mini-grant funded student project Effect of The Prevent Injury Enhance Performance Program on Biomechanical Risk Factors and Performance Variables in Male Collegiate Lacrosse Athletes. Background: Landing and cutting maneuvers are common mechanisms for noncontact anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. Men’s lacrosse is a high risk sport for ACL injury. The Prevent Injury Enhance Performance (PEP) program has been shown to decrease injury rates in women’s soccer but has not been studied in men’s lacrosse. Purpose: Determine if collegiate men’s lacrosse athletes land and cut in ways that put them at risk of ACL tear …

PEP Program Investigation With Men's Lacrosse Team

IPEC Mini-grant application for funding of UNE student project Effect of The Prevent Injury Enhance Performance Program on Biomechanical Risk Factors and Performance Variables in Male Collegiate Lacrosse Athletes. Two physical therapy students, one applied exercise science student, and the manager of the UNE Motion Analysis Laboratory collaborated to investigate the effectiveness of the Prevent Injury Enhance Performance (PEP) program on reducing undesirable biomechanics and enhancing performance during athletic maneuvers in male lacrosse athletes.

Cleveland's Bitter Pill: A Diagnosis Of Injured Title Dreams And Die-Hard Fans, Joseph Congeni, Thomas Bacher Apr 2015

Cleveland's Bitter Pill: A Diagnosis Of Injured Title Dreams And Die-Hard Fans, Joseph Congeni, Thomas Bacher

University of Akron Press Publications

This collection of stories examines Cleveland's athletic teams and injuries that have hindered their quests for championships. From rotator cuffs to knee ligaments, from sprained ankles to sprained backs, and from broken legs to broken arms, Cleveland's misery has taken some of its best athletes and immobilized them at inopportune times. Shaq gave fans his inside dominance and his ailing thumb in 2010. Herb Score was a blazing lefthander until he took a line drive to the face in 1957. When the Las Vegas oddsmakers picked the Browns to win the Super Bowl in 1988, Bernie Kosar's arm injury derailed …

Traumatic Brain Injury And Its Effect On Performance Measures Of Major League Soccer Players, Allison L. Wolf, Torri Jordan, Matteus Johnson, Richard E. Hardy, Jefferson C. Brand Apr 2015

Traumatic Brain Injury And Its Effect On Performance Measures Of Major League Soccer Players, Allison L. Wolf, Torri Jordan, Matteus Johnson, Richard E. Hardy, Jefferson C. Brand

Undergraduate Research Symposium 2015

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is a growing concern among professional athletes. Concern increased in soccer after several players immediately returned to play following TBI during the 2014 World Cup. The purpose of our study was to determine if individual performance measures (total years pro, total seasons, total games played, total games started, total minutes, total goals, total assists, total shots, and total shots on goal) were affected by TBI that occurred while competing in Major League Soccer (MLS). We also investigated if there were differences in career performance measures of MLS players with TBI versus without TBI in their career. …

Specific Sport Training Effect On Fms And Y Balance Scores, Phillip Anloague, Nicholas Herrin, John Malone, Cody Bond Jan 2015

Specific Sport Training Effect On Fms And Y Balance Scores, Phillip Anloague, Nicholas Herrin, John Malone, Cody Bond

University of Dayton Doctor of Physical Therapy Annual Research Symposium

The Functional Movement Screen (FMS) and Y-Balance Test (YBT) are functional measurement tools utilized for injury prevention, performance predictability, and as return to sport criteria. The FMS is comprised of 7 standardized tests of movement patterns that are rated from 0-3 and includes: Deep Squat, Hurdle Step, In-Line Lunge, Shoulder Mobility, Active Straight Leg Raise, Trunk Stability Push-Up, and Rotary Stability. The YBT is a measurement of single leg stance in the anterior, posteromedial, and posterolateral directions that is advocated for assessing dynamic balance. There lacks evidence that collegiate athletes in different sports that require specific training programs and physical …

The assessment of weekly and even monthly surf practice/training hours is vital for understanding the loads these up and coming surfers endure. Such information will help understand what kind of training these athletes are undertaking, how long they are surfing, what they consider training, and also areas that should be improved upon in terms of specific training. The purpose of this study was to establish surfers' training hours in terms of strength, balance and conditioning hours, as well as surfing hours, coached hours and competition hours. The monitoring of the athletes will provide insights into the weekly surf hours compared …
