Depression disorders often present during adolescence. Depression can lead to difficulties with relationships, problems in school, and associated high risk behaviors. The goal is to identify and treat depression as soon as possible. The purpose of this project is to implement a cognitive– behavioral based intervention called Creating Opportunities for Personal Empowerment (COPE) to depressed adolescents. Previously, the COPE program has been implemented in outpatient and school settings. This intervention was implemented to adolescents in an inpatient psychiatric hospital. Effectiveness, acceptability, and feasibility were evaluated.

Twenty-five adolescents, majority female, ages 12-18 participated in this project. The participants completed all seven …

OBJECTIVE: Maternal depression is linked to poor infant and child outcome. In 2001, the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration required all Healthy Start programs to incorporate maternal-depression screening as part of home visiting services. This article describes the implementation and results of depression screening by the Des Moines Healthy Start Project between 2002 and 2009. The study represents the first longitudinal assessment of the Healthy Start maternal-depression screening initiative. In the United States, depression affects many Americans at different levels. Depression among women is a major public health problem. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness), about 1 in 5 women develop depression at some point in their lives, and are nearly twice as likely as men to have depression. Much of the research about depression in women are quantitative studies aimed mostly at collecting epidemiological or survey data that focus on rates of mental illness, while not taking into account the qualitative subjective and contextual illness perspectives of women living with depression.

The particular focus is on narratives of social suffering and lived experience in the context of drug violence.

The purpose of this descriptive study is to gain a better understanding of the characteristics that can affect depression and overall compliance in prenatal care. Researchers anticipate that women’s involvement in the CARE Program will lead to a decrease in depression scores measured between the first and second trimester. The continued assessment and support provided by the CARE Coordinator is also expected to lead to fewer untreated cases of perinatal and postpartum depression.

Background: Depression is emerging as a highly prevalent psychiatric condition among people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). Perceived family support (PFS) buffers depression among chronic disease patients. However, a similar relationship among PLWHA is unexplored. Objective: To examine the relationship between PFS and depression among PLWHA in the Kathmandu Valley, Nepal. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, depression was measured by Beck Depression Inventory Ia. Perceived family support was measured by Nepali Family Support and Difficulties Scale. Introduction: Heart failure (HF) is a chronic condition that progressively worsens over time. The condition is more common in individuals over the age of 65 and commonly causes dyspnea, fatigue, orthopnea, nocturnal dyspnea, edema, and activity intolerance. Prior studies suggest a relationship between HF-related physical symptoms and depressive symptomatology in individuals living with HF. Depressive symptomatology in individuals with HF are linked with a higher mortality rate, decreased quality of life, decreased functional status, and disturbed sleep.
