Autism And Vaccination: The Real Story, Richard B. Philp

Richard B. Philp

Public perception has linked the onset of signs and symptoms of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) to childhood vacciniation, mainly with the measles-mumps-rubella vavine (MMR). This perception has been reinforced by the very public statements of some celebrities. Numerous clinical studies have failed to show any evidence of such an association and one study that initiallty raised the question has been retracted. This evidence is reviewed and discussed.

Oxystress Inducing Antitumor Therapeutics Via Tumor-Targeted Delivery Of Peg-Conjugated D-Amino Acid Oxidase., Arun Iyer

We had developed a H(2)O(2) generating enzyme, polyethylene glycol conjugated D-amino acid oxidase (PEG-DAO), which exhibited potent antitumor activity by generating toxic reactive oxygen species, namely oxidation therapy, subsequently showed remarkable antitumor effect on murine Sarcoma 180 solid tumor, by taking advantage of the enhanced permeability and retention effect. Along this line, we report here the preparation of PEG-DAO by use of recombinant DAO and its antitumor activity by using various tumor cell lines and tumor models. Recombinant DAO (rDAO) was obtained from E. coli BL21 (DE3) carrying the porcine DAO expression vector with high yield (20 mg/l) and high …

Common Pathophysiologic Mechanisms In Migraine And Epilepsy, Michael A. Rogawski Dec 2007

Common Pathophysiologic Mechanisms In Migraine And Epilepsy, Michael A. Rogawski

Michael A. Rogawski

Migraine and epilepsy are comorbid episodic disorders that have common pathophysiologic mechanisms. Migraine attacks, like epileptic seizures, may be triggered by excessive neocortical cellular excitability; in migraine, however, the hyperexcitability is believed to transition to cortical spreading depression rather than to the hypersynchronous activity that characterizes seizures. Some forms of epilepsy and migraine are known to be channelopathies. Mutations in the same genes can cause either migraine or epilepsy or, in some cases, both. Given the likely commonalities in the underlying cellular and molecular mechanisms, it is not surprising that some antiepileptic drugs, including valproate, topiramate, and gabapentin, are effective …
