Purpose: As the first of two papers addressing challenges in applying best evidence to physiotherapy practice, this paper highlights the role of qualitative research and challenges researchers face in producing sound evidence for practice.Summary of Key Points: The challenge of what constitutes acceptable evidence to inform evidence-based practice is addressed in this paper with critique of the current over-reliance on quantitative methodologies that excludes a substantial body of valuable qualitative evidence to support sound practice. Competency-Based Early Clinical Education Experiences For Physical Therapy Students., Carolyn L. Sherer, David M. Morris, Cecilia Graham, Laura W. White

Purpose: This paper describes the development, implementation, and outcomes of two courses for entry-level, master’s degree earning physical therapist students. The courses were designed to address perceived barriers to early clinical education experiences, and to proactively provide appropriate structure for the imminent transition to a clinical doctoral degree curriculum. Methods: The courses were conducted one full-day/week during the first and third terms of the curriculum. A variety of clinical sites were utilized.
