Paravertebral Nerve Block For Pain Management Of Nissen Fundoplication Surgery, Shelly M. Brock
Paravertebral Nerve Block For Pain Management Of Nissen Fundoplication Surgery, Shelly M. Brock
UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Providing comfort is a fundamental nursing responsibility. Unrelieved postoperative pain has adverse physiologic and psychologic effects that contribute to prolonged hospital admissions and significant discomfort to patients. Opioids are standard methods of postoperative analgesia for many surgical procedures. Unfortunately, the use of opioids is associated with side effects such as nausea and vomiting, urinary retention, ileus and respiratory depression. These side effects, with the added problem of inadequate pain control, result in patient dissatisfaction with surgical procedures.
Paravertebral nerve block (PVB) is a regional anesthetic technique that has been shown to result in opioid sparing in many procedures including breast …
The Effects Of A 10-Minute Warm-Up On Postural Control In Subjects With Functional Ankle Instability, Kristin Dawn Cadogan
The Effects Of A 10-Minute Warm-Up On Postural Control In Subjects With Functional Ankle Instability, Kristin Dawn Cadogan
All Volumes (2001-2008)
Very little research has assessed the effect of warm-up on postural control. The only related literature found pertained to rigorous activity and sensory processes. This type of activity increases the rate of reaction to perturbations of muscle length.14 Also, an increase in core temperature caused by activity influences the velocity of muscle shortening.15 Warming up prior to activity is a universally accepted method to prevent injuries. 16 Intense activity increases the rate of reaction to perturbations of muscle length and influences kinesthetic sensation. This raises the question if this neuromuscular effect can be replicated by measuring postural sway after a …

Incidence Of Skin Trauma Associated With Participation In Intercollegiate Soccer, Charlotte June Bargar
Incidence Of Skin Trauma Associated With Participation In Intercollegiate Soccer, Charlotte June Bargar
All Volumes (2001-2008)
Participation in soccer at the intercollegiate level has increased dramatically in the United States over the past 20 years. Past studies have identified the frequency and mechanisms of musculoskeletal injury among various populations. However, data on the incidence and etiology of skin trauma associated with intercollegiate athletic participation is limited in the literature. The purpose of this study was to measure the frequency of skin trauma and determine the injury rate (IR) based on exposure to injury among male and female soccer student-athletes at a NCAA Division II institution. A case reporting and exposure form was used to collect the …
Analysis Of Papilloma Virus E1 Protein: Creation Of Stable Cell Lines To Generate Sufficient Amounts Of Viral E1, Peaches Marie Raval Orallo
Analysis Of Papilloma Virus E1 Protein: Creation Of Stable Cell Lines To Generate Sufficient Amounts Of Viral E1, Peaches Marie Raval Orallo
All Volumes (2001-2008)
The immediate objective of our research aims to create stable cell lines to generate sufficient amounts of viral E1. The pMSG vector was chosen for its ability to amplify gene expression by way of hormonal or chemical induction, and for its ability to be selected under ampicillin medium by way of the Amp gene. pMSG was ligated with E1 insert in two fashions, blunt or modified ends. Inserts were created by way of digesting them with BamH1. The inserts were blunted and ligated with a blunt ended pMSG, or blunted, modified, digested with Sal 1 and then ligated with Sal …

Health Educators In Florida’S County Public Health Departments: Frequency Of And Perceived Confidence In Performing Entry-Level Competencies, Gwendolyn Matthews, Michele Johnson Moore, Chudley Werch
Public Health Faculty Research and Scholarship
The purpose of this study was to determine whether the activities of health educators in Florida’s county health departments concur with the responsibilities and competencies for health educators that have been established by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing (NCHEC, 2003). Fifty-three (68.8%) county public health department health educators completed a modified version of the Self-Assessment for the Health Education Specialist instrument (National Task Force, 1987) to determine the frequency and perceived confidence in performing entry-level health educator responsibilities. The data indicated that the entry-level responsibilities reflect the current health education practice in this group of health educators. The …

Relationship Between Extent Of Extracurricular Participation, Employment, And Substance Use Among Middle And High School Students, Lynn Hunt Long
UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This study examined the relationship between student use of substances and extent of participation in school and/or community sponsored sport or nonsport activity. The study also examined student substance use and extent of participation in sport or nonsport activity together with extent of employment.
Data were provided by 24,699 public school youths who attended grades 6 through 12 and completed the 2001-2002 Duval Secondary Substance Use and Violence Survey: Knowledge, Attitudes, and Behaviors. Frequency tables, crosstabulation, chi-square tests, and loglinear analysis were used to analyze the data.
The study found: (a) a higher percentage of respondents who participated in 11 …
