Optimisation Of Uv Treatment Duration To Induce Haploid Androgenesis In The Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis Niloticus L.), İsmi̇han Karayücel, Sedat Karayücel

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The optimum UV duration times of eggs were examined in order to develop a simple and safe method for inducing androgenetic development in the Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus. The yield of androgenetic haploid O. niloticus to the pigmentation stage was 18.53 ± 5.3% (relative to controls) with an optimal UV irradiation dose of 540 Jm^{-2} (at 150 µWcm^{-2 }) for 6 min. Most embryos developing after fertilisation with normal spermatozoa showed abnormal morphology and a haploid number of chromosomes (n = 22). The success of oocyte denucleation was also assessed by using the recessive "blond" skin pigmentation character.

Effects Of Different Concentrations Of Copper Alone And A Copper + Cadmium Mixture On The Accumulation Of Copper In The Gill, Liver, Kidney And Muscle Tissues Of Oreochromis Niloticus (L.), Baybars Sağlamti̇mur, Bedi̇i̇ Ci̇ci̇k, Cahi̇t Erdem Jan 2003

Effects Of Different Concentrations Of Copper Alone And A Copper + Cadmium Mixture On The Accumulation Of Copper In The Gill, Liver, Kidney And Muscle Tissues Of Oreochromis Niloticus (L.), Baybars Sağlamti̇mur, Bedi̇i̇ Ci̇ci̇k, Cahi̇t Erdem

Experiments were conducted in two series for 1, 7, 15 and 30 days. In the first series, fish were exposed to 0.1, 0.5, 1.0 and 5.0 ppm of copper and in the second series to 0.1 + 0.05, 0.5 + 0.1, 1.0 + 0.5 and 5.0 + 1.0 ppm of copper and cadmium mixtures. No mortalities were observed during the experimental period. Accumulation of copper in the tissues and organs increased with increasing concentrations of copper and with longer exposure periods. Copper accumulation associated with copper + cadmium mixtures in the gill, liver, kidney and muscle tissues varied with the …

Effects Of Supplemental Dietary L-Carnitine On The Growth Of Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis Niloticus) In Cage Conditions, Suat Di̇kel, M. Vedat Alev, Gül A. Ki̇ri̇ş, Mehmet Çeli̇k Jan 2003

Effects Of Supplemental Dietary L-Carnitine On The Growth Of Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis Niloticus) In Cage Conditions, Suat Di̇kel, M. Vedat Alev, Gül A. Ki̇ri̇ş, Mehmet Çeli̇k

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The effect of L-carnitine supplement on the growth performance of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) fingerlings was investigated. One group was fed normal commercial grow-out feed (the control group) while the other group was given feed containing 500 mg kg^{-1} L-carnitine. The addition of carnitine (the second group) had a positive effect on growth (7.9% higher than the control group). According to the final results, the carnitine-supplemented group had greater final weights (151.86 ± 27.19 g) than those of the control group (141.80 ± 24.83 g) (P < 0.05). This enhancement in growth was not due to a better feed conversion ratio (1.16 ± 0.31 vs. 1.20 ± 0.28) (P > 0.05). At the end of the feeding period of 90 days, 9.67% less feed …
