A Study On The Fattening Performance Of Tushin Lambs Subjected To Intensive Feeding, Mevlüt Karaoğlu, Muhli̇s Maci̇t, Ayhan Aksoy

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Some characteristics related with the fattening performance of Tushin lambs reared in the Research and Application Farm of Ataturk University and subjected to intensive fattening were determined. The inital fattening weight, final fattening weight, and total and daily weight gain during the fattening period were 19.71 kg, 38.07 kg, 18.35 kg and 203.48 g respectively. The feed conversion ratio (kg feed consumed/kg live weight gain) was 5.01. The effect of year on final fattening weight, total weight gain and average daily weight gain was found to be significant (p

A Study On The Growth Properties And Livability Of Tushin Lambs, Mevlüt Karaoğlu, Muhli̇s Maci̇t, Hakki Emsen

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The birth weight and weaning weight of all the lambs were 4.35 kg, and 16.79 kg respectively. The weight at the beginning and end of the grazing period, and the total and daily weight gain of females on the pasture in were found to be 15.62 kg, 24.51 kg, 6.03 kg and 66.37g respectively. The values of survival rate in different periods were determined to be 95.2 percent until the 30th, 60th and 90th days. Tushin lambs showed as good a performance as Akkaraman and Morkaraman lambs reared in different environmental conditions.

The Effect On Food Intake And Nutrient Digestibility Of Ensiling By Mixing Whole Crop Barley At The Boot Stage With Sainfoin In Lambs, Pinar Tatli, İ. Hali̇l Çerçi̇, M. Ali̇ Azman, Fuat Gürdoğan

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This study was conducted to determine of effects on food intake and nutrient digestibility of ensiling by mixing different proportions of whole crop barley at the boot stage including low dry matter and high easy dissolve carbohydrate with sainfoin including high dry matter and crude protein in lambs. Five Akkaraman male lambs averaging 42 kg and 12 months old were used. The experiment was carried out according to the 5X5 latin square design in individual boxes. The study groups were determined according to the proportions of whole crop barley and sainfoin which were used as silage materials. Group I (100 …

Effects Of Copper Sulphate Administration To Pregnant Sheep On Some Mineral Levels In Blood Sera Of Sheep And Lambs, And Birth Weight Of Lambs, İbrahi̇m Çi̇mtay, Teki̇n Şahi̇n, Ali̇ Ölçücü, Gürbüz Aksoy

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In this study, copper sulphate was administered during the last period of pregnancy to sheep in the Şanlıurfa region in which enzootic ataxia was encountered in the past. The objectives of this study were to search the effect of copper sulphate administration on some mineral levels (copper, zinc, iron, calcium and magnesium) in blood serum of pregnant sheep and their lambs, and birth weight of lambs. This study was performed on 35 pregnant sheep (control group: 15, experimental group: 20). In the experimental group, copper sulphate (2% solution) was administered orally at sixth and fourth weeks before birth at 2 …

The Determination Of Ensiled Qualities Of Corn, Alfalfa And Sugar Beet Pulp And The Effects On Food Intake And Nutrient Digestibility When Fed To Lambs In Different Forms, Pinar Tatli, İ. Hali̇l Çerçi̇, Fuat Gürdoğan Jan 2001

The Determination Of Ensiled Qualities Of Corn, Alfalfa And Sugar Beet Pulp And The Effects On Food Intake And Nutrient Digestibility When Fed To Lambs In Different Forms, Pinar Tatli, İ. Hali̇l Çerçi̇, Fuat Gürdoğan

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This study was conducted in two stages to determine the ensiled qualities of corn, alfalfa and sugar beet pulp, and the effects on food intake and nutrient digestibility of corn and alfalfa silages used alone, together and with sugar beet pulp silage in lambs. In the first stage, corn, alfalfa and sugar beet pulp were ensiled and silos were opened after 45 days. Silage samples were taken for determination of silage quality and the samples were analysed. Dry matter (DM) levels of corn, alfalfa and sugar beet pulp silages were found to be 28.56 and 31.44, 16.74%, respectively. The pH, …

Fattening Performance Of Güney Karaman,Kangal-Akkaraman And Akkaraman Lambs At Different Slaughter Weights, Mustafa Tufan, Ali̇ Akmaz

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In this research, the fattening performance of Güney Karaman, Kangal-Akkaraman and Akkaraman ram lambs slaughtered at different (30,35 and 40 kg)live weights was determined. The material of the research consisted of 20 ram lambs at 2.5 to 3 months of age with the average body live weight of 23 kg for each group (total 60 ram lambs).During the experiments the lambs were fed with the concentrates ad libitum and restricted wheat hay (100 g/head/day). Daily weight gains for reaching 30, 35 and 40 kg body live weight were found to be 270.90, 275.42 and 278.12 g for Güney Karaman, 264.15, …

Slaughter And Carcass Traits Of Güney Karaman, Kangal-Akkaraman And Akkaraman Lambs At Different Slaughter Weights, Mustafa Tufan, Ali̇ Akmaz

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This study was carried out to investigate the slaughter and carcass traits of Güney Karaman, Kangal-Akkaraman and Akkaraman ram lambs at slaughter weights of 30, 35 and 40 kg. In this study, 6 ram lambs were used for each slaughter weight and genotype group (a total of 54 ram lambs). The lambs were slaughtered when they reached the slaughter weights mentioned above. All the carcasses were divided into five cuts, namely leg, shoulder, back, loin and others. In order to determine the carcass composition, the left halves of the carcass cuts were dissected. At the 30 kg slaughter weight, the …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The aim of this study was to compare the fattening and carcass traits of lambs which were produced by two-way and three-way crossbreeding studies with Kıvırcık sheep, the predominant breed in the Marmara region, Chios sheep, the most prolific breed in the region and German Black-Headed Mutton (GBM) which has been found to be the mutton breed which exhibits the best adaptation to the environmental conditions of the Marmara region. It was determined that two-way and three-way crossbred lambs were similar with regard to fattening and carcass traits, and both showed better performance than Kıvırcık lambs. The crossbred lambs exhibited …
