Use Of Psychotropic Medications Among Pregnant Women With Bipolar Disorder: Patterns, Determinants, And Impact On Perinatal Outcomes, Misbah Salim
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Navigating psychotropic treatment use for bipolar disorder (BD) in pregnancy is challenging as it is, but it is even more difficult with use of multiple medications across various drug classes for treatment, given the absence of evidence of their safe use. This retrospective cohort study assessed prescription patterns, patient characteristics associated with these patterns, risk of adverse outcomes, and rates of readmission in women with BD who were prescribed antipsychotic, antidepressant, or combination treatment during pregnancy, relative to untreated women. An estimated 25% of women were prescribed psychotropic drugs during pregnancy. Women with past suicide attempts and those with recurrence(s) …
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy A Treatment For Postpartum Depression, Lindsay Anne Nelson
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy A Treatment For Postpartum Depression, Lindsay Anne Nelson
All Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Background/Purpose:The purpose of this paper is to critically analyze the literature in order to determine whether or not cognitive behavioral therapy is an effective intervention in the prevention and/or treatment of postpartum depression. Theoretical Framework: The theoretical framework used for this paper was Cheryl Tantano Beck’s theory, Teetering on the Edge: A Substantive Theory of Postpartum Depression. Beck’s theory was phenomenological study of the lived experiences of women suffering from postpartum depression. Beck identified a four stage process of postpartum depression encompassing a loss of control. The four stages included: (1) Encountering Terror; (2) Dying of Self, (3) Struggling to …

Treating Peri And Postnatal Depression And Anxiety, Emily M. Stevenson
Treating Peri And Postnatal Depression And Anxiety, Emily M. Stevenson
Physician Assistant Scholarly Project Papers
While diagnoses of depression and anxiety are not uncommon for women during pregnancy and after delivery, one of the greatest challenges in the plan of treatment is to ensure that the offspring are kept safe while the psychological well-being of the mother is appropriately cared for. The objective of this literature review is to evaluate the commonly prescribed treatment methods for prenatal and postnatal depression, focusing on the efficacy of antidepressant medications and nonpharmacologic treatments while evaluating the effects these medications have on the fetus/breastfeeding infant. The method of research included 15 studies completed within the past ten years on …
Analysis Of Latent Tuberculosis Infection Treatment Adherence In An Inner-City Clinic, Yvonne Washington-Turay
Analysis Of Latent Tuberculosis Infection Treatment Adherence In An Inner-City Clinic, Yvonne Washington-Turay
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
More than 10 million people in the United States are known to have latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI), and more than 300,000 begin treatment for LTBI annually. However, many fail to adhere to therapy for numerous reasons. The purpose of this project was to evaluate the impact of a new guideline, Targeted Tuberculin Testing and the Treatment of Latent Tuberculosis, at inner-city tuberculosis (TB) control clinic in the United States. The practice-focused question for the project asked if the implementation of the clinical guideline using a shorter regimen improved LTBI treatment adherence. The health beliefs model was the framework used to …
The Effects Of Self-Adherent Taping On Peak Inversion Angle And Eversion Moment Upon Landing During A Maximal Vertical Jump And A Depth Drop, Christopher M. Gregoire
The Effects Of Self-Adherent Taping On Peak Inversion Angle And Eversion Moment Upon Landing During A Maximal Vertical Jump And A Depth Drop, Christopher M. Gregoire
Cal Poly Humboldt theses and projects
Ankle injuries are the most common injury in physically active adults with roughly 15% to 30% of all physical activity injuries being ankle injuries. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a self-adherent ankle taping in reducing peak ankle inversion angle and peak ankle eversion moment upon landing during a max vertical jump and depth drop compared to jumping without a prophylactic ankle stabilizer.
Twelve volunteers participated in testing procedure on two separate days. Day one consisted of orientation while day two consisted of experimental data collection. The participant’s peak inversion angle and eversion moment were …
Differential Treatment Outcome Factors For Custodial And Noncustodial Mental Health Care Programs, Sheila Fay Waters
Differential Treatment Outcome Factors For Custodial And Noncustodial Mental Health Care Programs, Sheila Fay Waters
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Researchers have suggested that jails and prisons in the United States are becoming the new mental health clinics, contributing to the phenomenon of mass incarceration and costing upwards of $15 billion per year in public revenue. The problem is no conclusive evidence exists that treatment in these custodial environments is more effective than that provided by noncustodial programs; especially for substance users. Additionally, the continuing incarceration of people with mental health problems by the hundreds of thousands poses a difficult ethical dilemma regarding why this population does not receive noncustodial or hospital treatment instead. The study addressed the research question …
The Efficacy Of Neurofeedback In The Treatment Of Autism., Rosemary Akhavan
The Efficacy Of Neurofeedback In The Treatment Of Autism., Rosemary Akhavan
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Autism is a disorder that impairs the development of a person's ability to interact with other people and to relate productively with the outside world. There are many types of interventions being used to treat autism, but there are no cures or definitive treatments for this disorder. A biological theoretical foundation was the basis of this study, as recent neuroimaging techniques have demonstrated that autism is a neurological disorder that reveals distinct abnormalities in the brain. The purpose of this study was to examine the efficacy of neurofeedback (NFB) in the treatment of autism. NFB has shown promise of improving …

Objective: To examine the association between food insecurity and the prevalence of pre-hypertension and hypertension among U.S. adults. Additionally, this project will examine the association between food insecurity and the awareness, treatment and control (ATC) of hypertension.
Design: A cross-sectional study using data from the National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey (NHANES) 2011-2012 and 2013-2014 waves was deployed to examine the association between food insecurity and the prevalence and ATC of hypertension. Home Exercise Therapy For The Treatment Of Knee Osteoarthritis, Kezia Nixon
Home Exercise Therapy For The Treatment Of Knee Osteoarthritis, Kezia Nixon
Theses and Dissertations
Knee pain is the chief complaint of most osteoarthritis patients, and encourages them to seek medical attention. Unfortunately, pharmacological approaches to the treatment of knee osteoarthritis have been found to be inadequate. Given the prevalence and chronicity of osteoarthritic knee pain, there is an obvious need for treatments that can be provided for the course of the disease, with minimal adverse side effects. Exercise therapy has been found to significantly improve both pain and function among individuals with knee osteoarthritis. The primary objective of this quality improvement project was to investigate the effectiveness of a home-based therapeutic exercise program on …
