Normalizing Masculinity: Explaining Processes, Factors, And Contexts That Influence How Rural Male Farmers Seek Health Information In Southwest Ontario, Bradley C. Hiebert

Disproportionately high mortality and morbidity rates experienced by rural men are often related to the high prevalence of rural male farmers (RMFs) who are consistently exposed to chemicals, animal waste, and dust, or injured or killed while working. This dissertation aimed to explain processes by which RMFs seek health information (HI), and how these processes are influenced by rural social, cultural, political, and geographical factors.

In 2016, there were over 1.5 million cases of chlamydia reported in the United States with prevalence rates highest in people under 25 years of age (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2017). Researchers have suggested that college aged adults (age 18-25) should be targeted for chlamydia educational programs because these individuals are lacking in knowledge about chlamydia prevention, infection, symptoms, and screening methods (Goundry, Finlay, & Llewellyn, 2013; Rutledge, Siebert, Chonody, & Killian, 2011). Abstract

Introduction: Hypohydration exceeding 2% of body mass (bm), affected by heat and thirst level, leads to decreased athletic performance. Both physiological and psychological factors of dehydration have an impact on an athlete’s perceived performance. However, it is unclear whether the effects of psychological, physiological, or both have a negative impact on athletic performance caused by mild hypohydration. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine if mild hypohydration affects exercise performance in trained cyclists while blinding their hydration state.
