Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a devastating developmental disorder with a decline in both neurological and behavioral functions. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in the United States. Diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and dyslipidemia are three primary risk factors for CVD. Each is disproportionately distributed in the population by race/ethnicity. Social determinants of health (SDoH) research indicate that social and environmental factors upstream of individual behaviors can impede an individual’s chronic disease control. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine whether hospital practices are associated with breastfeeding initiation and breastfeeding duration for ≥10 weeks.

Methods: We analyzed the 2013-2015 South Carolina Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS) data. The population of interest was mothers who delivered a single live birth in the hospital. The infant was alive and living with the mother at the time of the survey. This dissertation offers a philosophical analysis of the placebo effect. After offering an overview of recent evidence concerning the phenomenon, I consider several prominent accounts of the placebo effect that have been put forward and argue that none of them are able to adequately account for the diverse instantiations of the phenomenon. I then offer a novel account, which suggests that we ought to think of the placebo effect as encompassing three distinct responses: conditioned placebo responses, cognitive placebo responses, and network placebo responses. Background: Health and social disparities affect the quality of life of transgender and gender nonconforming people in a negative manner as opposed to that of their cisgender counterparts (James et al., 2016). Gender discrimination, the lack of medical insurance, and a shortage of culturally competent providers contribute to some of the healthcare barriers in this population. The primary goal of this research study is to examine the knowledge disparities in diabetes mellitus of health related and non- health related undergraduate majors at Georgia Southern University. The Newest Vital Sign tool is used to assess health literacy between majors. Health related majors will have a higher health literacy score. The research questions to be investigated are (a). do non-health related majors lack an understanding of diabetes mellitus and (b). do all college students have adequate health literacy. With the findings, health education and promotion programs can be established and directed towards the appropriate population.
