Background: Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder defined by high blood glucose. Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1-RAs) are a newer class of medications that offer potential 2 to 3 kg weight loss and a 1% to 1.5% decrease in A1c. At the Indianapolis Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC), GLP-1-RAs are non-formulary.

Objectives: Primary outcomes included mean change in weight, body mass index (BMI) and A1c in VAMC patients. Secondary outcomes included the comparison to published values, analysis of insulin needs, and analysis of GLP-1-RA discontinuation reasons.

Nutrient Content Of Human Breast Milk From Overweight And Normal Weight Caucasian Women Of Northeast Tennessee, Megan R. Kwon

Many factors influence the nutrient composition of breast milk (BRM) particularly within the fatty acids composition. In this study BRM between 2-14 weeks of lactation was collected from 44 Caucasian women (24 normal weight (NW, BMI 18.5-24.9kg/m2) and 20 overweight (OW, BMI >25.0kg/m2). BRM was subjected to proximate analysis and participants completed food frequency questionnaires (FFQ) to estimate fruit, vegetable, and fat intake. BMI differed between NW and OW groups, 22.03 vs 33.86kg/m2 (p0.10) were identified for total calories (5,581.8 vs 5562.9cal/g), %fat (39.6 vs 43.9), or %protein (9.8 vs 8.9) for BRM in NW …

Domestic violence has been shown to increase the risk of bullying behavior among youth. Substance use and excess weight have also been linked to bullying behaviors. The purpose of this study was to determine what anti-bullying interventions have been implemented throughout the United States, and to identify the role of three risk factors (domestic violence, excessive weight or substance use) on bullying behaviors. For this study domestic violence will be defined as experiencing domestic violence or witnessing inter-parental domestic violence.
