Impact Of A Case Management Program On Immigrants' Health Status And Access To Care, Nelly Kangethe

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

In the United States (U.S.), immigrants are among the fastest growing populations of all communities. Today, they comprise approximately 11% of the total U.S. population. Forty-three percent of immigrants are without insurance. They are also associated with higher numbers of untreated medical conditions, fewer interactions with the health care system, and receiving health care through emergency departments (ER). The consequences of these practices include increases in health care costs, changes from preventive care to emergency treatment, delays in identifying illnesses until later, and higher disease prevalence. Case managers are frequently faced with immigrants' concerns regarding access to care and prevention …

Patient Satisfaction: Communication With Nurses, Cathy C. Oni Apr 2012

Patient Satisfaction: Communication With Nurses, Cathy C. Oni

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

Abstract Patient satisfaction is a pivotal issue within the healthcare industry. Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Provider and System (HCAHPS) survey clearly states that patient response to surveys is the indicator for '“quality of care" (Wagner & Bear, 2008, p. 692). A patient may equate quality of care to the manner in which it was delivered; hence when unsatisfied with their care, the patient may translate this into negative feedback on HCAHPS surveys (Lo, Burman, Rodin, & Zimmermann, 2009).

An Educational Intervention For Hospice And Palliative Care Nurses, Troy E. Fletcher

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

The provision of high quality nursing care to the dying has become a significant concern in the United States (Kruse, Melhado, Convertine & Stecher, 2008). The goal of palliative care is to provide care that allows for optimal quality of life for patients and their families (Betcher, 20 10; Mcllfatrick, Mawhinney, & Gilmour, 2010). The recognition of valuable and underutilized zed end-of-life nursing skills may provide guidance for the development of interventions to improve nurses' roles in caring for dying patients and their family members (Reinke et al., 2010). The American Association of the Colleges of Nursing (AACN. 2002) has …

Nursing Students' Experiences Using High-Fidelity Cardiovascular Simulation: A Descriptive Study, Teresa A. Paden

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

In recent years high-fidelity simulation in nursing has become an increasingly popular education tool (Sanford, 2010). Many nursing programs throughout the United States and abroad have incorporated simulation into their nursing program curricula. In 2003, the National League of Nurses (NLN) endorsed the use of simulation in order to prepare students for critical thinking, self-reflection and the complex clinical environment (Jeffries, 2007). Simulation was defined as the creation of an event, situation or environment that closely mirrors what one would encounter in the '“real world" (Cioffi, 2001; Rauen, 2001). Simulations were designed to motivate students to actively participate in the …

Evidence-Based Practice Gap In Knowledge, Margaret M. Orn Apr 2012

Evidence-Based Practice Gap In Knowledge, Margaret M. Orn

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

Evidence-based practice (EBP) has been shown to affect quality, safety, and decrease costs to organizations. To improve patient outcomes, health care facilities are adopting standards that require nurses to provide care based on evidence. Until recently, diploma and associate nursing curriculums have failed to include education on the principles of EBP leaving these nurses unprepared to adapt to changes as evidence is implemented. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (2008) designates EBP as a key component of professional education in the baccalaureate level of education. The purpose of this project was to investigate a change in Associate Degree Nurses' …
