Using An Electronically Delivered And Culturally Based Nutrition Module To Educate Latino Parents, Lia H. Yoon

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

Research Question: In the absence of current culturally based nutrition education at a northern California pediatric clinic, will a Latino and technology based nutrition education modality for the delivery of nutrition education to parents of Latino patients ages one year to 18 years old increase their nutrition knowledge? Purpose: To improve outcomes in the parents’ nutrition knowledge in order to improve the patients’ health status and promote future healthy nutrition behaviors. Methods: The project was a quasi-experimental pre-test post-test quantitative design. The primary outcome measures for the project included the difference between the pre-test knowledge survey from the post-education module …

A Quality Improvement Project To Evaluate Auditor Satisfaction With Different Data Collection Methods For Auditing Compliance With Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infection (Cauti) Prevention Standards, Andrea S. Balzer Jan 2015

A Quality Improvement Project To Evaluate Auditor Satisfaction With Different Data Collection Methods For Auditing Compliance With Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infection (Cauti) Prevention Standards, Andrea S. Balzer

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

Executive Summary A Quality Improvement Project to Evaluate Auditor Satisfaction with Different Data Collection Methods for Auditing Compliance with (CAUTI) Prevention Standards Problem Catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) are among the most common healthcare-associated infection (HAI) in the United States, representing about 40% of all HAIs (Palmer, Lee, Dutta-Linn, Wroe & Hartmann, 2013). Approximately 25% of indwelling urinary catheters are unnecessary and may potentially lead to CAUTIs if not maintained, cleaned, and cared for appropriately (Nazarko, 2012). Literature suggests that preventing CAUTIs is possible by implementing evidence based prevention standards. The PICO research question for CAUTI prevention and prevention standard …

Prenatal Nutrition Counseling Designed To Reduce The Intake Of Moderate And High Glycemic Index Foods Among Selected Normal, Overweight, And Obese Patients From A Nonprofit Faith-Based Patient Medical Care Home, Debra T. Gogatz

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

Executive Summary

Prenatal Nutrition Counseling Designed to Reduce the Intake of Moderate and High Glycemic Index Foods Among Selected Normal, Overweight, and Obese Patients from a Nonprofit Faith-based Patient Medical Care Home

Problem

Minority and economically disadvantaged clients at a faith based nonprofit patient medical care home were identified as needing dietary counseling in the first trimester of pregnancy. There has existed a preponderance of evidence linking excessive weight gain in pregnancy to multiple complications for mother and child with a suggested relationship specific to the inflammatory processed initiated within the human body related to the ingestion of excessive calories …

Comparison Of Home Medication Adherence In Adults Age 65 And Older After Completion Of Standardized Discharge Medication Education Or Non-Standardized Discharge Medication Education, Jill Weller Jan 2015

Comparison Of Home Medication Adherence In Adults Age 65 And Older After Completion Of Standardized Discharge Medication Education Or Non-Standardized Discharge Medication Education, Jill Weller

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

Executive Summary

Comparison of Home Medication Adherence in Adults Age 65 and Older After Completion of Standardized Discharge Medication Education or Non-Standardized Discharge Medication Education
Problem
The older patient (age 65 and older) is at higher risk of medication induced illness because of numerous co-morbid conditions treated with multiple medications, a standardized approach to medication education at hospital discharge can reduce adverse medication events for this at risk population (Esposito, 1995; Jack et al., 2009). The primary driving force for this project is the limited number of research studies published to date that include this specific age bracket and setting. …

Nurses' Experience With Medication Errors, Kristin M. Belderson Dec 2013

Nurses' Experience With Medication Errors, Kristin M. Belderson

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

Medication administration is an inherent nursing task, placing nurses at significant risk for experiencing errors. A systematic literature review established that nurses experience emotional, cognitive, and physical distress effects following medication errors, positioning nurses as second victims. The purpose of the DNP Capstone Project was to evaluate the lived experiences and coping responses of pediatric direct-care nurses working in a Rocky Mountain region tertiary care facility to assess whether the nurses have unmet post-event support needs. A descriptive, non-experimental, mixed methods survey instrument was used for this study. Of the 115 direct-care nurses employed in the selected department, 82 were …

The Subcutaneous Administration Of Bortezomib Practice Guideline Capstone Project, Jasmine Martin Aug 2013

The Subcutaneous Administration Of Bortezomib Practice Guideline Capstone Project, Jasmine Martin

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

Multiple myeloma is the second leading cause of hematological malignancies in the United States. Bortezomib is a chemotherapy agent effective in the treatment of all stages of multiple myeloma. Bortezomib administered by the subcutaneous (SC) route is as efficacious as the intravenous (IV) route. However, the literature does not describe how the drug was to be administered SC. A review of literature was inconclusive on how to administer SC injections and supported the need to describe how nurses are administering SC injections in order to develop practice guidelines. A 44-question electronic survey on SC bortezomib administration was developed, with all …

Scripted Communication, Shannon L. Cook Aug 2013

Scripted Communication, Shannon L. Cook

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

Variables related to scripted communication and patient satisfaction was studied. Patients who were admitted to the hospital and had inpatient status considered for the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) patient satisfaction survey. Inclusion criteria for the study population were if the patient was not a newborn, deceased, a ward of the state, or a No Publicity patient. The HCAHPS survey was only sent every 90 days per The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (CRMC, 2012). The independent variable was scripted communication with the use of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thanking) measured by the HCAHPS …

The Effects Of An Educational Support Group Intervention On Nurse Manager Burnout, Donna Faviere Jan 2013

The Effects Of An Educational Support Group Intervention On Nurse Manager Burnout, Donna Faviere

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

The purpose of this capstone project was to assess whether an educational support group intervention would increase the level of engagement among Nurse Managers (NM) at an acute care facility. NMs play a key role in helping an organization achieve strategic goals and financial outcomes. These complex demands put the NM at high risk to experience occupational stress, which may lead to burnout (Shirey, 2006). Based on this assessment the research questions: what is the level of engagement among NMs at an acute care facility before and after an educational support group intervention was developed? The goal of the intervention …
