Novel Anti-Influenza Monoclonal Antibodies, Ozlem Gurses

NYMC Student Theses and Dissertations

There is a continual public threat of influenza virus infections. This is related to viruses evolving in multiple animal reservoirs, making infection prevention in humans difficult to achieve and leading to seasonal epidemics and the semi-regular emergence of pandemics. Novel antibody-based therapies are of great interest to researchers because of a dramatic increase in drug resistant strains of influenza viruses. The identification of cross-reactive and broadly protective monoclonal antibodies targeting the influenza proteins presents a promising prospect for the development of a universal therapy. Although the research related to the monoclonal antibodies targeting the viral internal proteins is limited, multiple …

The Impact Of Sitting And Crawling On The Acquisition Of Object Permanence In Infants With Motor Delays And Infants With Typical Development, Karl Jancart Dec 2023

The Impact Of Sitting And Crawling On The Acquisition Of Object Permanence In Infants With Motor Delays And Infants With Typical Development, Karl Jancart

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Object permanence (OP) is the ability to understand that objects continue to exist even when they cannot be perceived. During play, infants with an understanding of OP will continue searching for toys when the toys have been obscured by other items. Searching requires movement. The theory of embodied cognition maintains that the form and function of an organism’s body influence how the organism learns; Therefore, if a child has difficulties with movement, as demonstrated by children with motor delays, they will likely have difficulty engaging in play, the modality by which children learn about their world. The current research is …

Implementation Of Implicit Bias Training In A Doctor Of Nurse Practitioner Program, Macdana Selecon Dec 2023

Implementation Of Implicit Bias Training In A Doctor Of Nurse Practitioner Program, Macdana Selecon

Heparin Induced Thrombocytopenia (Hit), Tanya Yatskiv Dec 2023

Heparin Induced Thrombocytopenia (Hit), Tanya Yatskiv

Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc)

Introduction:

Heparin was first discovered in 1915 and is still widely used to this day.1 In 1958 however, it was noted that a small percentage of recipients of heparin develop antibodies to the drug which cause a mild to moderate thrombocytopenia and can progress the patient into a severe prothrombotic state.2 The prothrombotic state can be detrimental due to venous and arterial thromboembolisms that lead to life and limb-threatening manifestations. The mechanism of the thrombocytopenia and immune reaction was not identified until 1973.2 The adverse drug effect is induced by platelet-activating antibodies against platelet factor 4 (PF4) and heparin.3 These …
