Increasing Head Extension With The Use Of Automated Contingent Music, Susan Corman
Increasing Head Extension With The Use Of Automated Contingent Music, Susan Corman
Masters Theses
The experiment was an attempt to increase proper head posture using automated music as a reinforcer and to determine if this behavior would generalize to another setting.
Two cerebral palsy and mentally retarded subjects participated. Subject 1 was 24-year-old female, while Subject 2 was a 17-year-old male.
The two conditions included in this study were Baseline (no-music), and Treatment (music contingent on proper head posture). Generalization (no-music) was assessed throughout all experimental conditions. Both subjects wore the mercury-switch head apparatus during Baseline, Treatment and Generalization sessions.
During Baseline, the overall mean percent of proper head posture for Subject 1 and …

The Effect Of A Values Clarification Strategy On The Smoking Behavior Of Pregnant Women, Jean Eiber
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
The null hypothesis of this study stated that there would be no significant difference (α=.05) in the change in smoking behavior following a teaching intervention to discourage smoking in pregnant women between those who completed a values clarifying strategy prior to the intervention and those who did not. Forty subjects were randomly assigned 20 to an experimental group and 20 to a control group. Both groups completed a pretest questionnaire concerning demographic data and smoking behavior. Information regarding the adverse effects on the fetus and on the developing child of smoking was presented to each subject by the researcher. The …

Operant Control Of Pathological Tongue Thrust, George A. Thompson
Operant Control Of Pathological Tongue Thrust, George A. Thompson
Masters Theses
Pathological tongue thrust (reverse swallowing) has been linked to malocclusion, articulation problems, difficulty in eating, and excessive drooling. Observable tongue thrust in a 10-year-old severely retarded male was modified during lunch using a contingent pushback procedure. Comparison of baseline and treatment data collected by the partial interval method showed a significant reduction in tongue thrust and food fallout and a substantial increase in observed chewing. Results indicated the possibility that an operant approach to treatment can be effective in the modification of this physiological response.

Autocorrelation In Behavior Modification Data, Suzanne M. Girman
Autocorrelation In Behavior Modification Data, Suzanne M. Girman
Masters Theses
Many methodologists claim that autocorrelation in intra-subject designs is a pervasive and critical problem necessitating complex statistical analyses to determine the existence of an intervention effect. In this study, autocorrelation, coefficients were found for a large sample of graphed data in the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis. Results indicate that there is minimal, negative autocorrelation for most of the data analyzed (-.04). This result suggests the presence of autocorrelation in the intra-subject designs analyzed is of no practical significance, and thus is not the problem some methodologists have assumed it to be.

An Evaluation Of A Data-Based Sex Education Training Program For Mentally Retarded Adults, Patricia Ann Riley
An Evaluation Of A Data-Based Sex Education Training Program For Mentally Retarded Adults, Patricia Ann Riley
Dissertations and Theses
The study determined that twenty-three mildly to moderately retarded adults living within the community increased their sexual knowledge after attending a twelve month, data-based sex education training program. The Lane Community College-Adult Basic Education (LCC-ABE) Pre/Post Test was administered to each subject when he/she began and finished the training program. The Intermittent Probe Tests were administered to each subject after instruction in each of thirteen topic areas in the curriculum. The main conclusions were that: (a) the subjects significantly increased their sexual knowledge after training; (b) class, sex, ability level, age, type of residence, and length of time in that …
