Hypertension (HTN) is one of the common preventable noncommunicable diseases. Only 53–70% of individuals with HTN are estimated to be taking the medication as advised by their physicians. In 2008, an estimated 17.3 million people died from cardiovascular diseases, representing 30% of all global deaths. By 2020, an 11% rise in deaths due to cardiovascular diseases has been estimated in India, for which HTN is one of the major contributing factors.
