Hold That Pose: Capturing Cervical Dystonia's Head Deviation Severity From Video, Zheng Zhang, Joel S Perlmutter, Et Al

2020-Current year OA Pubs

OBJECTIVE: Deviated head posture is a defining characteristic of cervical dystonia (CD). Head posture severity is typically quantified with clinical rating scales such as the Toronto Western Spasmodic Torticollis Rating Scale (TWSTRS). Because clinical rating scales are inherently subjective, they are susceptible to variability that reduces their sensitivity as outcome measures. The variability could be circumvented with methods to measure CD head posture objectively. However, previously used objective methods require specialized equipment and have been limited to studies with a small number of cases. BACKGROUND: Hypertension remains the major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) worldwide with a prevalence and mortality in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) among the highest. The early detection of hypertension risk factors is a crucial pillar for CVD prevention.

DESIGN AND METHOD: This cross-sectional study included 4284 subjects, mean age 46 ± 16SD, 56.4% females and mean BMI 26.6 ± 3.7 SD. Data were collected through a screening campaign in rural area of Kirehe District, Eastern of Rwanda, with the objective to characterize and examine the prevalence of elevated blood pressure (BP) and other CVD risk factors. An adapted …

Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) therapy development is hamstrung by a lack of susceptibility, diagnostic, and prognostic biomarkers. Blood neurofilament light (NfL) shows promise as a biomarker, but studies have largely focused only on core FTD syndromes, often grouping patients with different diagnoses. To expedite the clinical translation of NfL, we avail ARTFL LEFFTDS Longitudinal Frontotemporal Lobar Degeneration (ALLFTD) study resources and conduct a comprehensive investigation of plasma NfL across FTD syndromes and in presymptomatic FTD mutation carriers. We find plasma NfL is elevated in all studied syndromes, including mild cases; increases in presymptomatic mutation carriers prior to phenoconversion; and associates with …

BACKGROUND: The Washington Early Recognition Center Affectivity and Psychosis (WERCAP) Screen was developed to assess risk for developing psychosis. Its validity has not been investigated in a large population-based study or with longitudinal analyses.

METHODS: 825 participants, aged 14-25, were recruited from Kenya. Symptoms were assessed using the WERCAP Screen, as experienced over the prior 3-months (3MO), 12-months (12MO) or lifetime (LIF). ROC curve analysis was used to determine the validity of the WERCAP Screen against the Structured Interview of Psychosis-Risk Syndromes. Longitudinal validity was assessed by comparing baseline p-WERCAP scores in psychotic disorder converters and non-converters, and using ROC …
