Background: Physical development delays can severely limit a child’s ability to explore and learn about their environment. Evidence supports that this exploration promotes a child’s development in cognition, language acquisition, social skills, and further physical skills. Thus, interventions that target and improve early mobility can be highly valuable to a child’s life. Treadmill training in infants with developmental delays has shown to be an effective intervention in moving infants toward earlier independent walking and improved gross motor function.

“Assessment Of Student Readiness For Clinical Education In Mixed-Mode Curriculum Delivery: A Case Study”, Laura W. White, Kelly E. Jordan, Heidi Mcdermott

Purpose – The purpose of this case study is to describe a simulation-based assessment designed to assure student readiness for a first full-time clinical experience in an entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy program that transitioned to mixed-mode instruction during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Design/methodology/approach – A cohort of 40 second-year physical therapy students whose content delivery mode, assessment methods and curricular sequence deviated from the curricular plan participated in a new assessment using standardized patients. The assessment was developed to preferentially address the knowledge, skills, abilities and professional behaviors (KSAs) that were typically assessed with other methods before the pandemic.

This article highlights the importance of differential diagnosis in infants with congenital muscular torticollis (CMT), particularly those with atypical presentation or change of side for range-of-motion (ROM) restriction. Per the clinical practice guideline (CPG), patients who change sidedness with CMT should be reevaluated by the physical therapist and referred back to the primary care provider for consideration of other diagnoses.1 This recommendation is important to parents who are seeking accurate information on cause and severity and who want to know that the home exercises being prescribed for their infant are effective

Introduction

University stakeholders such as academic advisors, admissions staff and undergraduate (UG) faculty have the ability to influence student retention from undergraduate to graduate school. The previous groups of this multi-year project identified that there were gaps in knowledge and resources available to these stakeholders. Prospective UG students wanted increased opportunities to interact with CSP DPT faculty and students. UG Faculty and staff desired additional information and resources that they could share with prospective students. The needs assessment that was conducted drove the main goals and products that this project implemented.

Training programs must be designed to prepare physical and occupational therapy students for using Electronic Health Records (EHR) and interprofessional collaboration. This report aims to describe physical and occupational therapy students' perceptions of integrating Academic EHR in their Problem-Based Learning (PBL) curricula in the College of Health Professions, Sacred Heart University, Fairfield, Connecticut, the United States. A paper-based case approach to PBL was adapted by creating patient cases in an Academic EHR (AEHR). Students were asked to complete chart reviews and review provider notes to enhance their learning.
