Improvement Of Hair Transplantation In Postcicatracial Alopecia, Maurice Fekry, Ebrahim Awad
Improvement Of Hair Transplantation In Postcicatracial Alopecia, Maurice Fekry, Ebrahim Awad
Journal of Medicine in Scientific Research
Background Because scarred tissue has less blood flow than normal tissue, fewer hair grafts are taken, and the patient may require many sessions to achieve the acquired density, resulting in a lengthy treatment duration of up to 5 years. The use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) improves these findings. Patients and methods A prospective randomized-controlled study was conducted on 15 patients with cicatricial alopecia and candidates for follicular unit extraction hair transplantation, with ages between 25 and 60 years. Results Functional and esthetic outcomes were achieved by adding PRP regimen to follicular unit extraction hair transplantation for cases presented to us …

Different Modalities Of Tongue Tie Management, Wesam Ibrahem Homouda, Esayed Hussien Elmokadem, Mohamed Amr Hamdy Salem
Journal of Medicine in Scientific Research
Background: Tongue-tie or ‘ankyloglossia’ is a congenital anomaly characterized by presence of an abnormally tight lingual frenulum - a string like membrane – that attaches the tongue to the floor of the mouth. It affects the movement of the tongue. For symptomatizing ankyloglossia surgical treatment with different surgical techniques such as (Frenotomy, frenectomy/frenulectomy, and frenuloplasty) is the treatment of choice that gives satisfactory results. Objectives: We built our study to compare between different surgical techniques used for management of ankyloglossia. Patient and method: in our study 60 patients were included 33 were female and 27 were male with age ranging …

Menoufia Medical Journal
Objectives To assess platelet count in predicting outcomes in major burn patients. Background Burns are one of the most common devastating forms of trauma. Burn patients are ideal hosts for opportunistic infections. A burn wound has a much higher incidence of sepsis as compared with other forms of trauma because of extensive skin barrier disruption and an alteration in cellular and humoral immune responses. Patients and methods This study included 30 cases of burn patients. This study was done at Menoufia University and Shebin Elkom Teaching Hospitals between October 2018 and October 2019. Routine platelet count was done on first, …

Menoufia Medical Journal
Objective This study aimed to assess the outcome of separating the helix from the antihelix as a new concept in the management of protruding ear and compare its result with the Mustarde technique. Background The Mustarde technique is one of the most popular approaches to correcting the prominent ear. However, the Mustarde technique is criticized for its temporary results, high rates of recurrences, and the likelihood of suture extrusion. Patients and methods The present prospective comparative study was carried out on 40 patients with protruding ears planned to be operated on and managed. The patients were divided into two groups: …

Menoufia Medical Journal
Background The success of a first web-space contracture release is dependent on the individual parameters of thumb movement. Examining these parameters individually, it is possible to predict which components are important for providing successful outcomes. Objectives To study different options to the first web-space reconstruction. Patients and methods A clinical trial study was conducted, including 29 patients with the first-web deformities: group A included nine patients managed by five flaps. Group B included seven patients managed by posterior interosseous flap. Group C included three patients managed by the first dorsal metacarpal flap. Group D included six patients managed by Z-plasty. …

Menoufia Medical Journal
Objectives To assess the outcome of the extended dorsal metacarpal artery (DMCA) flap and its modifications for coverage of finger defects distal to the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint. Background The extended DMCA flap is a reliable solution for resurfacing soft-tissue defects in hand surgery. However, limited studies have used it to reconstruct defects beyond the PIP joint. This study reports a novel experience applying this flap for various finger defects distal to the PIP joint. Patients and methods This study was conducted on 21 patients who underwent an extended DMCA flap transfer. Flap length was measured from the pivot point …

Objective To evaluate the outcome of Koyanagi technique modification using dartos muscle as a second layer, because it has a high vascularity, very thin, easily elevated, and leaves no complications. Background One-stage urethroplasty through parameatal foreskin flap (OUPF) available for all types of hypospadias was first described by Tomohiko Koyanagi (1983), although high complication rates were reported. The aim of this study was to straighten the results of this method after adding dartos muscle flap between the constructed urethra and covering skin. Patients and methods This study was conducted in the Plastic Surgery Department at Menoufia University, during the period …

Menoufia Medical Journal
Objective The aim of thi s study was to evaluate the levels of mannose-binding lectin (MBL) in neonates to determine the relation between MBL deficiency and the development of sepsis. Background The MBL is a member of the collection family that is produced by the liver as an acute-phase protein. MBL activates macrophages, enhances phagocytosis, and contributes toward complement activation. Low serum MBL levels increase the risk of infections, especially if associated with other conditions such as immune deficiencies of various origins. Neonates are considered to be immunocompromised because their adaptive immunity has not yet been developed. Patients and methods …

Objective The aim of the work was to assess the level of high-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) protein in the serum of children with febrile seizures (FS) versus other groups of children suffering from afebrile seizures or febrile children without seizures in order to detect the relationship between HMGB1 and FSs. Background FS is considered as one of the most common seizure types during childhood. Fever is induced by increased HMGB1 level during infection and this may induce the development of FSs. HMGB1 is a highly conserved protein found in the nuclei and cytoplasm of nearly all cell types. HMGB1 …
