Non-Covid-19 Hospitalizations: Patients’ Experiences During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Julia Patrick

The purpose of this Qualitative Descriptive study was to describe the experience of hospitalized adults during the pandemic who did not have COVID-19. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 20 English-speaking adults who were hospitalized on a medical or surgical floor after April 1, 2020 and were negative for COVID-19 throughout their entire hospital stay. The interview questions focused on the overall hospital experience, the nurse’s role in their experience, comfort needs, and the experience of having comfort needs met during the hospitalization. Background: Patients’ experience reflects the quality of healthcare services from the end user’s perspective and therefore is an essential indicator of healthcare quality. This study aimed to measure patient experience of inpatient care and services received at a teaching hospital.

Methods: A total of 321 patients were enrolled in this quantitative, cross-sectional study during their discharge. Data were collected from May to September 2018 through a validated self-administered questionnaire adapted from the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey. Analysis of patient experience and overall hospital quality rating was conducted using SPSS version 25.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine environmental stressors perceived by patients in the surgical intensive care unit and their level of satisfaction with nursing care.

Design: A descriptive cross-sectional study design was used in this study.

Methods: This study was conducted between January 2019 and June 2019 with 120 patients who were hospitalised in the surgical intensive care unit. Data collection was via a patient information form, the Intensive Care Unit Environmental Stressor Scale (ICUESS) and the Experiences of Nursing Care Scale (ENCS) component of the Newcastle Satisfaction with Nursing Scales (NSNS).

This article details an application of Roy’s Adaptation Model (RAM) in providing nursing care for patients with end stage renal disease (ESRD) experiencing changes associated with required haemodialysis (HD). RAM guides the assessment of the patients’ levels of adaptation and facilitates the management of stimuli to promote their adaptation. The nursing intervention focuses on issues surrounding the adverse effects of HD treatment including physical, psychological, and social changes.
