Background: Lengthy therapeutic regimens in leprosy are prone to defaults, contributing to more antibiotic-resistant Mycobacterium. Intervening patients’ medical habits midway would be more complicated than understanding their perception of undergoing such regimens in advance. We study the factors considered relevant to leprosy patients’ compliance to construct a novel self-reporting questionnaire that can predict the patients’ adherence before initiating multidrug therapy.
Methods: According to the Delphi methods, we conducted three rounds of interviews with twenty-three respondents from various backgrounds, including dermatologists, government officials, healthcare workers, and patients with leprosy, to infer the associated factors of the included items. Each …

Background: Sensory nerve damage is the earliest leprosy sign which can lead to disability. Previous studies showed that autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) perineural blind injection can stimulate leprosy sensory nerve regeneration. Our study provided a safer and more accurate PRP agent delivery method through ultrasound-guided injection and was the first to compare PRP versus standard neuropathy treatment, the neurotropic vitamin. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of combination therapy of ultrasound-guided PRP perineural injection and oral vitamin B complex compared to single oral vitamin B complex in sensory peripheral neuropathy of posterior tibial nerve in leprosy patients.

Objective The aim was to estimate the serum levels of anticeramide antibodies (ACAs), interleukin-4 (IL-4), and tumor necrosis factor (TNF) in patients with leprosy and their possible role in the anticipation of leprosy complications. Background Leprosy is a disease that primarily involves the peripheral nerves and skin. Nerve damage is concomitant with multibacillary (MB) leprosy, and as ceramide is an element of the myelin sheath, ACAs can be a marker in the nerve destruction evaluation. Cytokine estimation can anticipate inflammation instigated by infections or trauma. The authors aimed to detect the role of serum levels of ACA, IL-4, and TNF-α …

Leprosy has a high incidence of physical complications that will impact directly the physiological, economic, and social status of patients. Indonesia has a high burden of the disease, and several leprosy settlements are still spread in the country. Neglasari Village, Sitanala, Tangerang serves as one of the places of residence of people who have had leprosy. A health service initiative known as Identifikasi Tanda-Tanda Mata, Ekstremitas, dan Kulit pada Kusta (KATAMATAKU) was launched as a collaboration of health services among multi-departments (ophthalmology, dermatovenereology, and medical rehabilitation). Sitanala has a relatively high incidence of people who have had leprosy with disabilities …

Introduction
Erythema Induratum (EI) is a relatively rare dermatologic disorder affecting subcutaneous fat tissue, which is often associated with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This report details the presentation, diagnosis and management in a 70-year-old female who presented with a painful erythematous annular rash at the clinic. The rash was later diagnosed as EI associated with Mycobacterium leprae, one rarely seen in literature.
Discussion
EI is a rare form of panniculitis that typically presents as a recurrent grouping of tender nodules and plaques on the posterior aspect of the lower legs. Although EI is considered idiopathic in most cases, it can be associated …

Lucio’S Phenomenon: A Report On Six Patients In A Tertiary Referral Hospital In Indonesia, Melani Marissa, Rahadi Rihatmadja, Denny Surya, Henry W. Lim, Sri Linuwih Menaldi
Journal of General - Procedural Dermatology & Venereology Indonesia
Background: Lucio's phenomenon (LP) is a rare variant of leprosy reaction, with the clinical manifestation of “necrotizing erythema.” LP was observed in patients with lepromatous leprosy who have not received or completed the treatment, and it is especially evident in patients with diffuse lepromatous leprosy (DLL), known as Lucio-Latapi’s leprosy. LP occurs due to M. leprae invading the blood vessels, causing endothelial damage that leads to thrombosis, ischemia, infarction, and tissue necrosis. The clinical features of the disease are erythematous lesions that can be accompanied by vesicles or bullae, with ulcers forming scar tissues. Histopathological examination can help establish …

Leprosy, also known as Hansen disease, is an uncommon chronic disease caused by the slowly growing acid-fast bacilli, Mycobacterium leprae. Leprosy has tropism for peripheral nerves and skin and can also be found in the upper respiratory tract, eyes, and nasal mucosa. When left untreated, there can be considerable nerve damage resulting in paralysis, blindness, and the crippling of hands and feet. Although infrequent in the United States, leprosy has been diagnosed in patients exposed to armadillos, an animal reservoir. We describe an 80-year-old man who presented with a 6-year history of chronic erythematous, macular rash, and progressive symmetric sensory …

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences
A two-year old male infant with generalized BCG lymphadenitis is presented. There was no obvious immunodeficiency disorder detected in the patient. BCG vaccine had been given at two months of age, and the lymphadenopathy developed at 21 months of age. Fine needle aspiration biopsy of the lymph node on Giemsa stain revealed macrophages very similar to Gaucher cells. These cells also resembled macrophages seen in lepromatous leprosy. They were engorged with acid fast bacilli and had streaked or wrinkled cytoplasm. Mycobacterium bovis was cultured from the lymph nodes and the patients improved with antituberculous therapy.
