Hematology/Oncology and Stem Cell Therapy

The most common and aggressive brain tumor in the adult population is glioblastoma (GBM). The lifespan of patients does not exceed 22 months. One of the reasons for the low effectiveness of GBM treatment is its radioresistance and chemoresistance. In the current review, we discuss the phenomenon of multidrug resistance of GBM in the context of the expression of ABC family transporter proteins and the mechanisms of proliferation, angiogenesis, and recurrence. We focused on the search of molecular targets among growth factors, receptors, signal transduction proteins, microRNAs, transcription factors, proto-oncogenes, tumor suppressor genes, and their single-nucleotide polymorphisms.

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

The PRRS virus and PED alpha-coronavirus are the two main pig pathogens in the world. The current strategies to control these diseases are inadequate. The recombinant chimeric swine PKR-Apaf-1 protein (rcPAP) consists of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus Trans-activator transcription (HIV-TAT) domain, the dsRNA-binding domain of porcine Protein kinase R (PKR) gene and the caspase recruitment domain (CARD) domain of porcine Apoptotic Protease-Activating Factor-1 (Apaf-1) gene. In general, the rcPAP can detect viral dsRNA in virally infected cells and induces apoptosis and kills the virus-infected cells. In this study, the reducing viral-load efficacy of rcPAP (produced from bacteria) against PRRS virrus …

Monensin Induces Apoptosis In The Liver Tissue And Primary Hepatocytes Of Chicks, Muhammet Yasi̇n Tekeli̇, Murat Kanbur

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In this study, monensin (MON) was investigated for its apoptotic and genotoxic effects on chick liver tissue and cytotoxic and apoptotic effects on chick primary hepatocytes isolated from perfused liver tissue. Western blotting and real-time PCR (qPCR) were used to determine the apoptotic effect on primary hepatocytes and liver tissue, and the comet assay was used to determine the genotoxic effect on liver tissue. MON decreased cell viability in primary hepatocytes with increasing concentrations. When administered at concentrations of 1 and 10 μM, MON increased the levels of apoptotic p53, caspase-3, and caspase-9, and downregulated the expression of the antiapoptotic …

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: Acute pancreatitis is a clinical picture with a wide range of symptoms from mild inflammation to multiorgan failure and death. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of Adalimumab (ADA) on inflammation and apoptosis in a cerulein-induced acute pancreatitis model in rats. Material and methods: Experimental cerulein-induced acute pancreatitis model was created by applying 4 intraperitoneal cerulein injections at 1-h intervals. A total of 40 rats, 8 in each group, were randomly distributed into five groups. In the groups that ADA treatment was given, two different doses of ADA were administered 5 mg/kg and 20 mg/kg …
