Prevalence And Risk Factors For Canine Cognitive Dysfunction Syndrome In Thailand, Chutamas Benjanirut, Chanakarn Wongsangchan, Piyathip Setthawong, Wittanee Pradidtan, Suphanuch Daechawattanakul, Kris Angkanaporn

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

Canine cognitive dysfunction syndrome (CDS) is a disease similar to Alzheimer’s in humans. This progressive neurodegenerative disease affects senior dogs, causes many behavioral changes and decreases welfare in both the dog and owner. Even with its high impact, many studies have shown CDS is underdiagnosed. The aims of this study were to investigate the prevalence of CDS in Thailand and to identify its risk factors. In this study, 622 senior dogs (seven years old and older) were randomly recruited. After an initial interview, 389 dogs were excluded from the study due to clinical and/or sensory impairment. Owners of the remaining …

Prevalence Of Feline Immunodeficiency Virus & Feline Leukemia Virus In Clinically Healthy Cats In Khon Kaen Province, Kawintra Aiyaranoi, Nichapart Boonchalaew, Natcha Chawnan, Sukdiphat Chotiku, Jaruwan Kampa Mar 2018

Prevalence Of Feline Immunodeficiency Virus & Feline Leukemia Virus In Clinically Healthy Cats In Khon Kaen Province, Kawintra Aiyaranoi, Nichapart Boonchalaew, Natcha Chawnan, Sukdiphat Chotiku, Jaruwan Kampa

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

FIV and FeLV infections are mostly studied among clinically sick cats; therefore, results may deviate from the true prevalence in a whole population. By using a commercially available kit, the infections were observed in 216 clinically health client-owned cats in Khon Kaen province, Thailand. A cross-sectioned study was undertaken to estimate the presence of FIV and FeLV infections in the cats which underwent health checkup from October 2016 to January 2017. The prevalence of FIV-antibody positive and FeLV-antigenic cats were 6.1% and 3.1%, respectively, and co-infection was not identified. The updated information provides necessary guidelines for veterinarians to provide preventive …

minant brucellosis. The stochastic scenario tree model was used to simulate vaccination and surveillance implementation during 8 years. Outputs were annual proportions of true positive, true negative, false positive, and false negative flocks. Vaccination coverage was described by the Pert distribution with average 70% and min and max 50% and 80%, respectively. Effects of risk factors (high prevalence-areas and transhumance) were considered. The model was separately simulated for three levels of initial average flock prevalence (2%, 5%, and 10%). In the following years, flock prevalence arising from the fitted distribution of the false negative flocks from the previous year increased …

Seroepidemiology And Molecular Investigation Of Pestiviruses Among Sheep And Goats In Northwest Anatolia, Gi̇zem Alpay, Eda Baldan Öner, Kadi̇r Yeşi̇lbağ

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Pestiviruses, which are distributed worldwide, may cause losses in sheep and goat populations. The current seroprevalence and circulation of pestiviruses in small ruminants of the South Marmara Region of Turkey were investigated. A total of 607 blood samples were collected from 22 different flocks in 4 different provinces, and 24 necropsy materials were investigated. Pestivirus seroprevalence in sheep and goats was determined by virus neutralization test against the NADL strain of bovine viral diarrhea virus. The mean antibody titer was 3.5, while the overall seropositivity rate was 32.78% (199/607). Seronegativity was markedly more prevalent in goats. The mean detected antibody …

The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and seroprevalence of hypodermosis and to calculate the economic loss associated with hide damage in the cattle on the Kars Plateau, Turkey. A total of 6563 randomly selected cattle were examined by skin palpation from 1 April to 31 May 2014. A subset of 465 serum samples was collected from October to November in 2014 and analyzed using a commercial ELISA kit. The overall prevalence of hypodermosis was 16.9% in the cattle examined by skin palpation. In respect of each of the risk factors assessed, the highest prevalence rates were …

Isolation Of Arcobacter Spp. From Domestic Ducks And Geese And Identification Of The Recovered Isolates By Using Molecular Method, Eli̇f Çeli̇k, Ali̇ye Gülmez Sağlam, Özgür Çelebi̇, Sali̇h Otlu

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This study aimed to investigate the role of healthy domestic geese and ducks as Arcobacter carriers. A total of 599 samples, including 330 cloacal swab and 116 fecal samples from geese, and 153 cloacal swab samples from ducks raised on family farms were analysed. For this purpose, the membrane filtration method was applied. In this study, Arcobacter spp. were isolated at rates of 16.7% and 12.93% from cloacal swab and stool samples of geese, respectively, and 26.14% from cloacal swab samples of ducks. Obtained isolates were identified by multiplex PCR (m-PCR) as A. cryaerophilus, A. butzleri, and A. skirrowii. Seasonal …
