The Prevalence Of Eimeria Species In Goats In Van, Serdar Değer, Abdurrahman Gül, Erol Ayaz, Kami̇le Bi̇çek

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This study was carried out to determine Eimeria infection in goats in nine different districts in Van province in Turkey. Faecal samples (approximately 3-5 g) were obtained from the rectums of 242 goats. The samples were examined by Sheather's sugar flotation technique and determined microscopically for the presence of oocysts. Eimeria species were identified following sporulation of faeces in a thin layer of 2.5% potassium dichromate for one or two weeks at 25 ºC. All samples were later examined for identification of Eimeria species. Nine different species of Eimeria oocysts were detected in 73.6% of the goats. These species were …

Age And Growth Characteristics Of Chalcalburnus Mossulensis (Heckel, 1843) Living In Karasu River (Erzurum-Turkey), Ayhan Yildirim, Hali̇l İbrahi̇m Hali̇loğlu, Mustafa Türkmen, Orhan Erdoğan

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The relationship of age, growth and length-weight was analyzed for Chalcalburnus mossulensis from the Aşkale region of Karasu River from November 1995 to October 1997. Fish in the sample groups were between 1 and 7 years and the ratio of males to females was 1:1.08. Von Bertalanffy equations were used to find the growth in length for both sexes. The growth parameters for males and females were estimated to be L_{\infinity} = 19.88869 cm, K = 0.1867795 and t_0 = -2.3 and L_{\infinity} = 21.8742 cm, K = 0.168014 and t_0 = -2.1, respectively. We also found that the length-weight …

Serological And Microbiological Investigation On Turkey Rhinotracheitis Virus (Trtv) Infection Of Chickens And Turkeys, Yavuz Çokal, Ayşi̇n Şen

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

A total of 426 serum samples were examined from 9 broiler and 7 broiler breeder flocks showing clinical signs of swollen head syndrome (SHS). Turkey rhinotracheitis virus antibodies in 8 broiler flocks were between 31.8 and 75.9% and in broiler breeder flocks between 5.4 and 48.6%, with a commercial ELISA. Typical clinical symptoms were observed for SHS in broilers and broiler breeders. During the study, turkey flocks showing clinical signs were not detected. The antibodies to TRTV were between 5.5 and 80.0% in 7 out of 10 broiler flocks, and between 20.0 and 57.1% in 3 out of 4 fattening …

The Prevalences Of Helminth Species According To Faecal Examination In Equids In Different Cities In Turkey, Abdurrahman Gül, Serdar Değer, Erol Ayaz

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The faeces of 464 horses and 110 donkeys were cOllected and examined by the flotation, sedimentation and Baermenn-Wetzel methods in a parasitology laboratory. The examinations showed that 327 of 464 (70.5%) horses and 85 of 110 (77.3%) donkeys were infected with the following species: in horses, Strongylidae sp. 62.7%, Strongyloides westeri 5.8%, Parascaris equorum 3.2%, Anoplocephalidae sp. 2.4 %, Fasciola hepatica 0.9%, Oxyuris equi 0.6%, and Paranoplocephala mamillana 0.2%; and in donkeys; Strongylidae sp. 72.7%, Strongyloides westeri 13.6%, Parascaris equorum 2.7%, Fasciola hepatica 0.9%, Oxyuris equi 0.9% and Dicrocoelium dendriticum 0.9%.

The Presence Of Mallophaga Species On Wild Partridge In The Elazığ District, Nursel Aksin Jan 2003

The Presence Of Mallophaga Species On Wild Partridge In The Elazığ District, Nursel Aksin

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The purpose of this study was to determine the presence of Mallophaga species on wild partridges in the Elazığ region. We inspected 68 partridges for Mallophaga species between November and January from 1996 to 2000. At least one species of Mallophaga was found on 48 partridges. Three species of Mallophaga were found on infested partridges. These species, were Goniodes dispar (Burmeister, 1838), Goniocotes pusillus (Nitzch in Giebel, 1866) and Menacanthus lyali (Rodriguez Caabeiro et al.,1983). These three Mallophaga species have not been reported before in Turkey.
