Due to the recent increasing mortality rates in 1- to 4-month-old Thoroughbred foals with Rhodococcus equi infection in Turkey, serum samples from 454 foals between 30 and 60 days on studfarms of the Marmara Region, where the Thoroughbred foal population is concentrated, were investigated by ELISA for early diagnosis of the infection. The Tween 20-extracted antigen of the R. equi ATCC 6939 strain was used in the ELISA. Two hundred and nine (46%) of the 454 foals were found to be ELISA-positive. Optical density (OD) values of 0.3 (positive limit) or higher were detected in 43% of foals aged 30-40 …

This study was undertaken to determine the presence of staphylococcal enterotoxin and the type of toxin present in pasteurized milk consumed in Ankara. For this purpose, a total of 250 milk samples, from 6 different firms with 130 samples coming from box containers and 120 of them in bottles, were used. All were purchased in Ankara. The samples were taken over a period of one year to reflect seasonal variability. Staphylococcal enterotoxin presence (Transia Plate, ST 0796) and determination of type (RIDASCREEN, R 4101) were done with the sandwich ELISA technique. SEA was determined to be >0.1 ng/ml level in …

In this study, 275 serum samples collected from cattle at various ages and of both sexes, slaughtered at state or private abattoirs in Elazığ, Malatya and Diyarbakır were examined by MAT and ELISA for the presence of antibodies against Leptospira species. In the serological analysis, using antigens prepared from reference Leptospira hardjo, L. pomona, L. grippotyphosa, L. hebdomadis, and L. icterohaemorrhagiae cultures, 44 (16%) and 64 (23.3%) of the samples were determined to be positive with MAT and ELISA, respectively.
