We live in a world in which the perception of reality is too often confused with reality and there are few fields in which more confusion exists than in the popular perception of the hazards of exposure to low-level radiation and low-level radioactive wastes. Much of the fear of radiation has been generated by the association of radiation and radioactivity with nuclear explosions and nuclear war.
