Adverse childhood experiences (ACES)a r e traumatic events that can occur during an adolescent's life. Af e w example of ACES are: • parental divorce/ separation • having a parent or guardian that isaddicted to a substance. These events cause the adolescent tolive through a state of chronic stress. Furthermore, these experiences put adolescents at a greater risk for obesity and depression. With adequate screening, nurses would be able to identify adolescents going through these troubling times. Interventionssuch aseducation on a healthier lifestyle and providing counseling services, would be beneficial to the age group.

Obesity is a growing problem in the United States. While it remains important for clinicians to emphasize health supportive behaviors including dietary modification and exercise when counseling patients, the advent of new weight loss medications has created a need for patient education materials regarding these interventions for a growing number of patients who request them at primary care visits. This project created a smart phrase in the electronic medical record summarizing weight loss medications currently available on the market to transform patient counseling and enable better shared decision making between patients and providers.

Quality Improvement Project: Compliance Of Antenatal Testing In Patients With Class Iii Obesity, Isabella L. Sciacca, Timothy Kremer, Nicole Tenzel

The prevalence of obesity in women of reproductive age (20 to 39) in the US is 39.7%. It has been estimated that one-quarter of pregnancy complications are attributable to maternal obesity. Comprehensive prenatal care is imperative to achieving positive health outcomes. This quality improvement (QI) initiative aimed to improve antenatal fetal surveillance rates in patients with class III obesity. Evidence based interventions to test fetal wellbeing were implemented and examined over a 7 month time period to evaluate physician compliance of the standard of care for antenatal surveillance starting at 34 weeks gestation.
