Cardiac malignancies are tumors that develop in the heart; they are commonly asymptomatic, hard to locate and associated with a poor prognosis. The size and location of the tumor in the heart often play a role in the early or late discovery of the tumor. Cardiac malignancies can be either benign, such as cardiac myxoma or rhabdomyoma, or malignant, such as cardiac lymphoma or angiosarcoma. Fortunately, the advancement of imaging modalities—especially computed tomography—has improved early detection rates of cardiac tumors. Low dose Computed Tomography (CT) screening is essential when finding and treating suspicious lung nodules. A CT machine uses a highly advanced detector assembly that measures the amount of radiation exiting the patient and records data. A CT machine also conducts three-dimensional reconstructions of images that is used for surgical planning, CT angiography (CTA), radiation therapy planning, and virtual reality imaging. The use of radiation reduction techniques in Computed Tomography (CT) is critical in reducing patient dose, and for establishing new standards in radiation monitoring and protection during imaging procedures. CT is used to obtain high quality image sets that contain more useful information than standard x-ray images for diagnostic purposes; however, it utilizes higher radiation dose. This research will discuss how Coronavirus (COVID-19) has severely impacted the world and the role of computed tomography (CT) department as a whole. COVID-19 is an infectious disease that is fast spreading caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The outbreak began in December of 2019 in the city of Wuhan, China. COVID-19 has been declared a pandemic since March of 2020 due to the rapid spreading of the virus.
