The Effectiveness Of Exercise In The Prevention Of Gestational Diabetes: A Systematic Review, Gabrielle Freed Spt, Amanda Sheehan Spt, Amy Sokol Spt, Haley Stack Spt
Student Research Poster Presentations 2020
Background: Gestational diabetes develops during pregnancy and can cause complications for the mother and baby. Poor management of gestational diabetes can lead to a large sized baby, Cesarean section at delivery, preeclampsia, or hypoglycemia in the baby at birth. Physicians advise women, pre-conception and post-conception, to follow a diet and exercise plan in order to decrease the chances of developing gestational diabetes. Studies have been done to determine the effectiveness of proper diet and exercise prior to conception and during pregnancy in the prevention of gestational diabetes.

Student Research Poster Presentations 2020
BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Living with visual impairment can greatly affect one’s ability to exercise and maintain an active lifestyle. People with low vision or parents of children with low vision are often fearful of aerobic exercise because of the possibility of harm that could occur from the inability to see. Little research has been done on using aquatic therapy as a form of exercise in people with low vision. The purpose of this study is to see if aquatic exercise is well tolerated within this population. Additionally, this study serves to determine the effect of aquatic exercise on cardiovascular fitness, functional strength, …

Purpose: This systematic review was done to compare the effects of physical exercise on depression versus the standard treatments most patients who are diagnosed with depression receive, which includes antidepressant medication and cognitive behavioral therapy. Our article compiles relevant information that supports physical exercise as an alternative treatment for individuals who have been diagnosed with depression. We sampled randomized control studies and prospective cohort studies for data and results, and systematic reviews for supporting information. Our research will be a …

The barriers to exercise that patients face are often multi-factorial. Whether its due to weather, financial costs, lack of time, or if the individual simply isn't a gym person, we see a number of patients everyday who are not regularly exercising. Barriers To Exercise: Patients With Diabetes In Washington County, Joshua Bruce Taylor
Family Medicine Clerkship Student Projects
According to the Vermont Department of Health physical inactivity is one of the three main behaviors that predisposes patients to cancer, heart disease/stroke, lung disease, and type 2 diabetes, which result in over 50 percent of deaths among Vermonters. Washington County has a higher rate of overweight adults than the statewide average, making exercise an important component to healthier living. Barriers to exercise, especially among patients with diabetes, impose serious health ramifications for the residents of Washington County, and avenues must be made available to circumvent these barriers.

Family Medicine Clerkship Student Projects
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, children and adolescents are engaging in less physical activity and are increasing their sedentary behavior. These changes can lead to long-lasting negative lifestyle behaviors, which increases risk of health complications.
To ensure safety during the pandemic, guidelines have created restrictions on physical education and sports, which are both primary physical activity outlets for children and adolescents. Children and adolescents have to find alternate ways and resources to meet the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity daily.
An informational pamphlet was created to educate parents and children of current physical activity recommendations, with resources and ideas …
