Antibiotic resistance has become a global health crisis. Providers contribute to this crisis by inappropriately prescribing antibiotics causing an increase in the number of drug resistant organisms. The leading cause of inappropriate antibiotic prescriptions in the primary care setting are upper respiratory tract infections, primarily acute bronchitis. The purpose of this evidence-based practice project is to determine if an educational program for primary care providers regarding appropriate use of antibiotics will reduce the number of antibiotic prescriptions issued for acute bronchitis.
