Assessing Time From Door-To-Antibiotic Administration For Adult Cancer Patients With Neutropenic Fever In The Emergency Department, Sarah Roy, Tina Magsarili
All Nursing Boot Camp Posters
Background:
Infection, related to febrile neutropenia, in patients receiving chemotherapy for cancer remains a common complication and is a medical emergency. Fever is often the only sign of severe underlying infection in neutropenic patients due to the patient’s immunosuppressed state (Butts, et.al, 2017). Vigilant nursing assessment and immediate medical attention for neutropenic fever (NF) is imperative because the rate of major organ complication and mortality is as high as 30% and 11% respectively (Freifield et.al, 2011 & Taplitz et.al, 2018). In the setting of severe sepsis or septic shock the mortality rate may be as high as 50% (Taplitz et.al, …

The Effect Of A Parental Diagnosis Of Cancer On The Occupational Performance Of Adolescent And Young Adult Offspring, Brianna Wong, Susan Macdermott, Becki Cohill, Pandora Patterson
Summer 2020 Virtual OTD Capstone Symposium
Objective: To gain an understanding on the current knowledge and practice of OTs relating to the occupational impact that a parental diagnosis of cancer can have on AYA offspring. In addition, to determine if there is occupational disruption or imbalance impacting AYAs whose parents have cancer and if OT is a good fit to treat this population.
Methods: A scoping literature review was conducted gathering relevant peer-reviewed articles, analyzing and creating themes with the current literature. In tandem with the scoping review, a qualitative study was conducted. Eight occupational therapists working in either an oncology care setting or pediatric setting …

Evaluating Awareness Of Low-Dose Computerized Tomography For Lung Cancer Screening, Roshni Leboutillier, Bansi Savla, Vincent Wu, Zia Khan, Erick Mejia, Leah Tehranchi, My Myers, Khine Min, Jennifer Broyles, Stacy Chase
West Florida Division Virtual Research Day 2020
In the U.S., excluding melanoma, lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths.1
Cigarette smoking is the number one risk factor and is linked to 80-90% of lung cancer deaths.2
Low-dose Computerized Tomography has been shown to reduce lung cancer deaths by 20% in randomized control trials and observational studies.4
The U.S. Preventative Task Force recommends annual screening for lung cancer with low-dose computerized tomography (LDCT) in adults ages 55-80 years of age who:
- Have a 30 pack-year smoking history and
- Currently smoke or
- Have quit within the past 15 years.

Background: PD-1 and PD-LI inhibitors are a large component of the growing immuno-oncology field and every year there are increasing studies investigating potential indications for these agents. This IRB approved retrospective chart review examines patients in the Medication Assistance Program (MAP) within a large tertiary medical center who are on PD-1 and PD-L1 medications due to financial barriers and/or non-FDA approved regimens (unlabeled indications). This study seeks to evaluate …

Exploring Occupational Disruption In Newly Diagnosed Individuals With Cancer With Minor (Dependent) Children, Riley S. Harrold, Susan Macdermott, Becki Cohill
Spring 2020 Virtual OTD Capstone Symposium
Background: According to the American Cancer Society (2019), there were more than 1.7 million new cases of cancer in 2019 alone. Individuals are being diagnosed at a young age with 22.4% of cases occurring in individuals 22-55 years old and whom are childrearing age (Shah et al., 2017). There are an estimated 2.85 million children under the age of 18 who are living with a parent who has cancer (Shah et al., 2017). Newly diagnosed individuals face changes in daily life, the threat of possible death, and fear of dying (Compas et al., 1994). Changes in shared family roles …

Case Report: Effects Of Therapeutic Exercise On A Patient With Metastatic Osteosarcoma And Pathological Fracture, Jessica Phung, Sarah Mathew
Case Report: Effects Of Therapeutic Exercise On A Patient With Metastatic Osteosarcoma And Pathological Fracture, Jessica Phung, Sarah Mathew
San Marcos, Spring 2020
Purpose: The purpose of this case report is to demonstrate how conditioning exercise for patients with active metastatic neoplasms can improve quality of life (QoL) after a pathological fracture of lumbar vertebrae. Spinal metastasis, in this case from breast cancer, is primarily asymptomatic, and therefore, difficult to detect during early stages. Detection and diagnosis usually occur after initial manifestation of a pathological fracture leading to debilitating effects. Complications with metastatic bone cancer and surgical contraindications may bring patients into outpatient physical therapy to address the pathological fractures and QoL for patients.

Meaning-Centered Supervision: A Structured Self-Reflection Model To Reconnect With Personal And Professional Meaning In Palliative Care Work, Rebecca Cammy, Msw, Lcsw
Department of Medical Oncology Posters
Meaning-centered supervision explores participant’s sense of meaning of past, present, and future personal and professional experiences. The series aims to reintegrate selfreflection into clinical practice through experiential exercises, homework journaling, and group discussion. Social workers develop a narrative around themes of professional attitude, living and creating work life, and connections with the social work profession. The goal is to help palliative care social workers create a sense meaning and purpose in their work as they develop their personal and professional identities. Additionally, the hope is to support supervisees through any concerns of burnout and compassion fatigue.

Angioimmunoblastic T Cell Lymphoma: A Diagnostic Dilemma, Nishanth Thalambedu, Md, Seema Sethi, Do, Herbert Auerbach, Do
Abington Jefferson Health Posters
Angioimmunoblastic T cell lymphoma(AITL) is one of the rarest T cell lymphomas. Diagnosing the type of lymphoma is crucial, as the management differs depending on the type. We present a case of a sixty-one-year-old woman who presented with generalized lymphadenopathy and how we unfolded the diagnosis.
