2020 Celebration Of Scholarship, Creativity, And Engagement, Todd Bruns, Beth Heldebrandt

Programs

The 2020-2021 academic year is truly extraordinary and higher education’s new, hopefully temporary, normal began on rather short notice in Spring 2020. While our environment has changed, we, as a shared community, are pleased that the important work of faculty continues and evolves as faculty broaden and redefine the boundaries of scholarship, creativity, and innovation in accelerating hybrid and remote environments. And, as new forms and strategies for scholarship and creativity emerge, the core principles of faculty life and student learning remain central to the mission of Eastern Illinois University.

For that reason, our faculty, department chairs, college deans, the …

A thorough literature review of 40 research studies was conducted to identify issues associated with medication errors. This quality improvement project aims to identify the prevalence of medication errors, their effect on patient wellness, its monetary effects in healthcare, and what preventative interventions can be implemented to prevent such …

Measuring Nomophobia And Exploration Of Consequences And Comorbidities, Sarah Marie Fryman, William L. Romine

Excessive use of smartphones has coined the term “Nomophobia”, or fear of not being able to use your smartphone. For many, these devices have become an extension of ourselves, which raises hesitation on whether or not society has become addicted to smartphones. Specific diagnostic criteria for smartphone addiction have yet to be settled, and even appropriate to use the word “addiction” when describing excessive usage of smartphones is controversial.

We therefore explore utilize current measures to explore the symptoms of nomophobia and their hierarchy, as well as comorbidities including social anxiety, self-esteem, distracted driving and sleep quality. A total of …

Someone's Missing...And I Think It's Me: Our Great Adventure With Dementia, J. L. Gaustad

Someone's Missing...and I Think It's Me

Someone’s Missing…and I Think It’s Me is a unique blend of memoir, advice, and art. Gaustad chronicles her experiences with her late husband, prominent artist and VCU faculty member Gerald Donato, as they try to navigate the mysteries and terrors of early-onset dementia. Beautifully illustrated with original artwork by the author, Donato, and artist friends, Gaustad takes a brutally honest, sometimes harrowing, and ultimately life-affirming look at their challenged marriage. Although her original intent was to create a guide for those dealing with brain illness in loved ones, the book became a testament to the beauty and humor to be …
