Malnutrition in children under 5 years remains an important public health challenge as it spurs child mortality and morbidity in developing countries, including Nigeria. The purpose of this quantitative cross-sectional study was to explore the risk factors of malnutrition in children under 5 years of age in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. Socioecological and health belief models were applied to examine risk factors of malnutrition among these children. Trauma due to sexual assault becomes a life changing event during a child's critical developmental years. Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory outlines the process of understanding an individual's environment and how disruptions in one level may affect other levels. This study determined if gender and ethnicity among sexually traumatized children diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) predict symptom severity as measured by the Trauma Symptom Checklist for Children (TSCC) after controlling for the socioeconomic level and home environment. Environmental, personal, and social factors have been associated with an increase of asthma morbidity. However, little is known about how they cumulatively affect children's quality of life. In the United States, motor vehicle crashes are one of the leading causes of unintentional injury death and disability for children ages 1'15 years. Despite local, state, and federal legislative and educational efforts, children continue to be restrained improperly and thus face harm.
