Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: To determine risk factors associated with the development of insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and metabolic syndrome (MetS) in gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) patients 10 years after giving birth. Materials and methods: Medical records of patients with former GDM were screened. Eligible patients were invited to the hospital to obtain information about their present health status. Patients with pregestational diabetes and patients with multiple pregnancies were excluded. A total of 67 women formed the study group. American Diabetes Association (ADA) and International Diabetes Federation (IDF) criteria were used to define T2DM and MetS, respectively. Results: A total …

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: Healthy wound healing is very important for patient comfort. Diabetes is one of the factors that negatively affect wound healing. Ankaferd Blood Stopper (ABS) and caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) are antiinflammatory and antimicrobial agents and may have positive effects on wound healing. Materials and methods: In this study, 72 male Wistar albino rats were used. Rats; control, CAPE, ABS, diabetes + control, diabetes + ABS and diabetes + CAPE groups were divided into 6 groups. A healthy 36 rats created diabetes using streptozotocin (STZ). A gingival wound was created using a 4-mm punch biopsy in the gingival tissue …

An Immunohistochemical Examination Of Cinnamon Extract Administration Ondistribution Of Ngf (Nerve Growth Factor) And Trk-A (Tyrosine Kinase-A) Receptor Fordiabetic Rats With Pancreatic Tissue, Şükran Yedi̇el Aras, Ebru Karadağ Sari

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the administration of cinnamon extract that is known to be effective in decreasing the high blood glucose and the distribution of NGF and Trk-A receptor in pancreas with immunohistochemistry way. Materials and methods: The experimental groups were defined as control, sham, cinnamon, diabetes, and diabetes-cinnamon. At the end of the experiment, the pancreatic tissue samples were obtained for the rats. The hematoxylin-eosin and triple staining were used to examine histology. The immunohistochemical methods were performed on the sections of pancreatic tissue. In all groups, the body weight and fasting blood glucose …

Potential Antidiabetic Activity Of Benzimidazole Derivative Albendazole And Lansoprazoledrugs In Different Doses In Experimental Type 2 Diabetic Rats, Burak Di̇k, Devran Coşkun, Emre Bahçi̇van, Kami̇l Üney Jan 2021

Potential Antidiabetic Activity Of Benzimidazole Derivative Albendazole And Lansoprazoledrugs In Different Doses In Experimental Type 2 Diabetic Rats, Burak Di̇k, Devran Coşkun, Emre Bahçi̇van, Kami̇l Üney

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the effects of different concentrations of albendazole and lansoprazole, which were benzimidazole derivatives, on endocrinologic and biochemical parameters in experimental type 2 diabetic (T2D) rats. Materials and methods: In this study, 46 male Wistar Albino rats were used. Animals were divided as healthy control (0.1 mL/rat/day saline, s.c, n = 6), diabetes control (0.1 mL/rat/day saline, s.c, n = 8), diabetes+low-dose albendazole (5 mg/kg, oral, n = 8), diabetes+highdose albendazole (10 mg/kg, oral n = 8), diabetes+low-dose lansoprazole (15 mg/kg, subcutaneous, n = 8), and diabetes+high-dose lansoprazole (30 mg/kg, subcutaneous, n …
