Background/aim: To evaluate the role of cyclic protein arginine methyltransferase 5 (circPRMT5) in the occurrence and development of breast cancer (BC). Materials and methods: A total of 90 BC patients who underwent radical mastectomy and 40 age-matched healthy female controls were recruited in the Second People's Hospital of China Three Gorges University, Yichang Second People's Hospital from 2017 to 2020. Quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) was used to detect the expression levels of circPRMT5 in BC tissues, serum, normal breast cell line (MCF-10A), and BC cell line (T47D, MCF-7, BT549, Hs-578T, and MDA-MB-231, MDAMB-468). The associations between circPRMT5 …

Background/aim: Extraskeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma (EMC) is a rare soft tissue sarcoma. The aim of this study is to present the results of the patients we treated with the diagnosis of EMC as an oncology reference center. Materials and methods: Information on 13 patients diagnosed with EMC between 2006 and 2018 was retrospectively reviewed. Patients' demographic information, tumor sizes, surgical treatments, chemotherapy and radiotherapy statuses, follow-up times, recurrences, and metastases were recorded. Results: Mean patient age was 53.6 ± 15 years (range: 28-73). In 8 patients, the tumor was located in the lower limbs, most commonly in the thigh (46.2%). Mean …

Background/aim: The aim of the study was to evaluate the relationship between primary tumor type and the effectiveness of microwave ablation (MWA) therapy by comparing the technical and clinical outcomes of MWA in the treatment of colorectal liver metastases (CLM) and noncolorectal liver metastases (NCLM). Materials and methods: Between January 2019 and March 2021, 47 consecutive patients (25 male, 22 female) with a total of 63 unresectable hepatic metastases underwent MWA under ultrasound guidance. The patients were divided into CLM (n = 29) and NCLM (n = 18) groups. Patient demographics, procedural details, and complications were noted. The overall survival …
