To investigate the effect of caffeine on the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), nitric oxide (NO), and advanced oxidation protein products (AOPP) in the liver and heart tissues of rats. Materials and methods: The current study included 30 rats, which were divided into 3 groups: a control group and 2 caffeine-treated groups. Group 1 was given caffeine at 30 mg/kg and Group 2 was given caffeine at 100 mg/kg (a high nontoxic dose) for 14 days. Results: MDA and AOPP levels in the liver tissue of the caffeine-treated groups decreased significantly as a result of the dose. MDA and AOPP levels …

Endothelial damage and dysfunction are held responsible for the etiopathogenesis of Behçet's disease (BD). In the present study, we aimed to investigate the relationship of BD with nitric oxide (NO), asymmetrical dimethylarginine (ADMA), symmetrical dimethylarginine (SDMA) and L-arginine levels, which are known to play a role in the pathogenesis of vasculitis. Materials and methods: Sixty patients enrolled in the study were allocated to groups as follows: active/inactive patient groups; the patient group with active/inactive vessel involvement, and mucocutaneous patient group without vessel involvement. Results: NO, SDMA, ADMA levels of the active patients and SDMA and ADMA levels of the inactive …

Intimal hyperplasia is a vascular remodeling process. It is a clinical problem that forms in the vascular wall as a result of smooth muscle cell migration, proliferation, and extracellular matrix accumulation. In this study we examined the immunohistochemical evaluation of the effects of nebivolol on intimal hyperplasia in damaged endothelial tissue. Materials and methods: The study was conducted using 21 rabbits equally divided into 3 groups: control, solvent, and nebivolol. The rabbits in the control group only underwent balloon injury of the abdominal aorta. The rabbits in the solvent group and nebivolol group underwent balloon injury and were treated with …

Effects Of 50 Hz Electric Field On Malondyaldehide And Nitric Oxide Levels In Spinal Cord Of Rats At Prenatal Plus Postnatal Period, Ertuğrul Uzar, Haci Ramazan Yilmaz, Mustafa Yilmaz, Efkan Uz, Vedat Ali̇ Yürekli̇, Bumi̇n Dündar, Hasan Rifat Koyuncuoglu, Selçuk Çömlekçi̇ Jan 2011

The effect of 50 Hz electric field (EF) on developing neural tissues is not known. We aimed to determine whether there would be any oxidative stress effect of 50 Hz EF on developing spinal cord tissues of pup rats by evaluating malondialdehyde (MDA), nitric oxide (NO) levels, and antioxidant enzyme activities such as superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) measurement. Materials and methods: In the prenatal+postnatal group, the pregnant rat was exposed to continuous EF at 50 Hz 10 kV/s until delivery. Then the female pups of this group (n = 7) were exposed to EF at the same doses …
