Canine transmissible venereal tumour (CTVT) is a contagious tumour of dogs, transmitted via coitus or coital behaviour which in some cases spreads by metastasis but primarily, CTVT appears as reddish soft nodules or papilla, protruding from the surface of the penis, prepuce, vagina and vulva but sometimes appears in locations outside the genitals. There was early evidence of CTVT more than 10,000 years ago and this disease has been reported in at least 90 countries across the continents of the world, especially in third world countries, where there are high numbers of stray dogs. CTVT natural infection occurs only in …

Novel Methods To Diagnose Pulmonary Hypertension In Dogs Assessed By Thoracic Radiography, Kawinthip Chanroon, Thanat Tuntipas, Promsin Sukpanich, Pawit Punyarit, Sirilak Disatian Surachetpong Sep 2018

Novel Methods To Diagnose Pulmonary Hypertension In Dogs Assessed By Thoracic Radiography, Kawinthip Chanroon, Thanat Tuntipas, Promsin Sukpanich, Pawit Punyarit, Sirilak Disatian Surachetpong

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

The objective of this retrospective study was to distinguish between dogs with pulmonary hypertension (PH) and non-PH by using parameters obtained from thoracic radiographs. Data of 72 dogs of small breeds aged more than 1 year old and weighing less than 10 kg were retrieved. Echocardiography was used as a gold standard to diagnose PH and separate the dogs into two groups: PH (n=15) and non-PH (n=57). Seven formulae were created from measurements on right lateral and ventrodorsal radiographic views. Five formulae from the ventrodorsal view provided an outcome that could differentiate PH and non-PH dogs. Two formulae are recommended …

Bovine tuberculosis (BTB) is a contagious zoonotic disease that causes serious public health concerns. Cervidae are highly susceptible to BTB and it has been diagnosed in various deer species. In order to develop BTB eradication and control program, Mycobacterium bovis Bacille Calmette Guerin (BCG) vaccination has been studied in cervids. In this study 15 rusa deer were tested for responsiveness to mycobacterial reaction using a comparative cervical skin test (CCT). The rusa deer were divided into 2 groups; BCG vaccination group, which were inoculated with a single dose of 2x106 cfu M. bovis BCG Tokyo subcutaneously (n=8) and control group …

Determination Of Multidrug Resistance (Mdr1) Gene And Its Mutations In Dogs By Using Polymerase Chain Reaction, Sariya Asawakarn, Valaiporn Ruangchaiprakarn, Naparee Srisowanna, Leelawat Wongwan, Anusorn Kanuengthong, Gunnaporn Suriyaphol Mar 2012

Determination Of Multidrug Resistance (Mdr1) Gene And Its Mutations In Dogs By Using Polymerase Chain Reaction, Sariya Asawakarn, Valaiporn Ruangchaiprakarn, Naparee Srisowanna, Leelawat Wongwan, Anusorn Kanuengthong, Gunnaporn Suriyaphol

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

The objective of this study is to establish a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) laboratory for detection of multidrug resistance1 (MDR1) mutation in Thailand. Blood samples were collected from 67 dogs, namely 16 Collies, 9 Shetland Sheepdogs, 5 Border Collies, 6 Shih tzus, 13 German Shepherds and 18 mixed breeds. Genomic DNA was extracted and PCR was performed to amplify 341 and 577 bp fragments to detect homozygous wild-type (+/+) and homozygous mutant (-/-), respectively. For the heterozygous mutant (+/-), both PCR fragments would be presented. An analysis of DNA sequences encompassing the 4-base pair deletion in the coding region of …

Clinical, Radiographic And Pathological Features Of Persistent Gastroesophageal Intussusception In An Adult Dog: A Case Report, Theerayuth Kaewamatawong, Wijit Banlunara, Varaporn Wangrattanaparanee, Srireepong Kiertkrittikhoon Jun 2010

Clinical, Radiographic And Pathological Features Of Persistent Gastroesophageal Intussusception In An Adult Dog: A Case Report, Theerayuth Kaewamatawong, Wijit Banlunara, Varaporn Wangrattanaparanee, Srireepong Kiertkrittikhoon

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

The aim of this report is to describe the clinical, radiographic and pathological appearances of a persistent gastroesophageal intussusception in associated with idiopathic egaesophagus in an adult dog. A 6-years old, male Golden Retriever was referred for evaluation of chronic regurgitation and vomiting. Radiographic diagnosis of persistent gastroesophageal intussusception (GEI) with megaesophagus was made. Survey and contrast radiography evidenced a distension of the esophageal medial and caudal portions due to a dense soft-tissue mass and the barium cloud not pass to abdominal portion, where outlined the striations of muscle of the distal esophagus around the mass.Necropsy findings revealed a completed …

Melan A, Protein Expression As A Diagnostic And Prognostic Factor In Canine Oral Melanomas, Anudep Rungsipipat, Chanin Kulprawit

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the relationship between Melan A protein expression, histopathological appearance, clinical data and proliferative marker indices for the diagnosis and prognosis of canine oral melanomas. A retrospective study was performed on biopsy specimens of 65 dogs submitted during the years of 2000 to 2003 to the Department of Pathology, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University. Our results revealed that Melan A protein expression was detected in 50.77% (33/65) malignant melanomas. The results did not show any significant differences between Melan A protein expression and histopathological classification, clinical data, average AgNORs and PCNA indices. …
