The presentinvestigation was carried out to demonstratethe effect of high ambient temperature (HTa) on lactation performance with herd-based measurement. One large dairy farm in Thailandwith more than 300crossbred Holstein cows milking each monthwas selected. The meteorological data was recorded once a week during the period of observation. Milking cows (n=90) were observed for a 10-month lactation curve based on their calving seasons: Summer, rainy and winter. The lactation curve was fitted by nonlinear regression using the reduced lactation persistency model. The climatic conditions revealed a high degree of temperature and humidity index (THI). The average THI throughout the year was 84.8 …

CD4 gene is reported to have significant role in various inflammatory conditions including mastitis. Therefore, the current study was designed to screen out single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the bovine CD4 gene and to evaluate its effects on mastitis indicator and production traits. Total 201 milk and blood samples were collected from dairy cattle maintained at government dairy farms of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Milk samples were used for DHI test (milk composition and somatic cell count) and the blood for DNA extraction. SNPs were initially detected in the pool DNA samples followed by screening in the whole cohort. The association …

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of long-term administration of recombinant bovinesomatotropin (rbST) on the acid-base homeostasis of lactating crossbred cows under hot and humid condition ofThailand. Two groups of five animals each of primiparous crossbred dairy cattle were supplemented either with rbSTor with control vehicle every 14 days throughout the period of lactation. The blood gas parameters, milk yield andfeed intake from both groups were recorded at each stage of lactation. Cows supplemented with rbST showed milddegree of acid-base imbalance during early to mid lactation. The lower partial pressure of carbon dioxide (paCO2) andplasma bicarbonate …
