The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

This study aimed to investigate Listeria species in various samples taken from aborted sheep in Kars province and to determine the position of emerged strains in the phylogenetic tree. Milk (n= 229) and vaginal swab (n= 263) samples from aborted sheep and abomasum contents (n= 46) of aborted sheep fetuses were investigated by the culture and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) methods. For the phylogenetic analysis of isolates, the 16S rRNA gene region was sequenced. In the culture, the Listeria agent was not isolated from any of the vaginal swabs or milk samples. Among the 46 fetal abomasum contents, a Listeria …

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

Salmonellaspp. can be widely spread by air or contaminated food. There are sixcommon pathogenic Escherichia coli whichaccount for 4–8% of all E. coli pathogens. Amongstthem, E. coliO157 is the most commonlyknown. In this study, we investigated the prevalence of diarrhoeapathogens, referred to as Salmonellaspp.andEscherichia coli(E. coli), in pet dogs in western Taiwan using the conventionalpolymerase chain reaction (PCR). The related analysis between the prevalence rates and the epidemiological data of pet dogs was correlated with age, season, area and breed. Faecalsamples were collected from240dogs which had symptoms of diarrhoeaand had been examined byveterinaryhospitals from January 2015 to January 2017. The …

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

Tuberculosis caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis is an important zoonotic disease that concerns the survival of endangered species and public health aspects. A 17-year-old, female Malayan tapir from a zoo in Thailand died with a sign of panting after anesthesia for the treatment of her oral problems. Grossly, multiple caseous white nodules were scattered throughout the parenchyma and bulged from the capsular surface in affected organs such as lung, lymph node and liver. Histologic examination revealed multifocal to coalescing granulomas characterized by caseous necrotic center, loosely organized inflammatory zone with low numbers of Langhans’s giant cells and thin fibrotic zone. A …

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

The Laguna Madre in Mexico is a nursery, growth, and refuge area for shrimp and other wildlife species. These organisms support an important fishery for local industry (third place in Mexico), which may suffer diseases that are few studied. Wild shrimp were randomly collected from two sampling stations (Carrizal and Carbonera) once a month for one year (September 2007 to September 2008) to screen for virus and bacteria. The shrimp were taxonomically identified, organized in pools of three organisms per species and analyzed for the presence of WSSV, IHHNV, NHP and HPV by a commercial multiplex PCR kit DiagXotics Inc. …
