Résumé
Introduction : L’unité collaborative d’apprentissage (UCA) est un modèle de supervision de stage en sciences infirmières qui pourrait optimiser les ressources dédiées à la formation clinique en partageant la supervision des étudiantes et étudiants au sein d’une équipe de soins. Il s’agit d’un modèle flexible qui peut s’adapter aux particularités des milieux cliniques et universitaires désirant se l’approprier. Cependant, la mise à l’essai de ce modèle n’a pas été documentée en contexte québécois.

This study sought to examine whether the consistent application of a specific placement design to student practice learning experiences within two pre-registration nursing degree programmes offered by a university in the United Kingdom (UK) affected retention and achievement levels. The quantitative analysis involved a sample of 460 employer-sponsored undergraduates, all of whom worked as non-registrant carers, within two cohorts of a part-time adult (physical) or mental health nursing degree programme, both of four years duration, offered by a large academic institution with a presence in all four UK nations. The health science professions- nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, audiology and speech-language pathology -address diversity and inclusivity within their professional organizations and educational experiences. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) courses serve as the gateway into these professions. Diversity and inclusion is a larger higher education issue in the USA, as these programs are housed in colleges and universities. This paper explores diversity and inclusivity in these professions today and uses a historical case study from nursing to understand the impact history has had on this issue over time.
