Contributing to the longevity of the restoration by minimizing the effects of surface corrosion, maintaining the esthetic appearance and the smooth surface characterization, and contributing to gingival health by lessening the potential for plaque retention are the principal reasons for taking care of dental restorations. During the introductory semester of treating patients, students are in need of assistance and guidance throughout the assessment and treatment phases of patient care. As novice learners, there is little to no prior knowledge on writing a patient case study presentation. To assist and improve dental hygiene student writing of patient case journals, a scaffold assignment was created. There are more than two options for restoring a single tooth but our research includes a three-unit bridge and a single-tooth implant as the main options. In this paper, we discuss the advantages and disadvantages of these methods and the factors that must be considered when choosing between them for the replacement of a single tooth.
