Purpose: Intravenous vitamin C (IVC) is used in a variety of disorders with limited supporting pharmacokinetic data. Herein we report a pharmacokinetic study in healthy volunteers and cancer participants with IVC doses in the range of 1-100 g.

Methods: A pharmacokinetic study was conducted in 21 healthy volunteers and 12 oncology participants. Healthy participants received IVC infusions of 1-100 g; oncology participants received IVC infusions of 25-100 g. Serial blood and complete urine samples were collected pre-infusion and for 24 h post-infusion. Pharmacokinetic parameters were computed using noncompartmental methods. Adverse events were monitored during the study.

BACKGROUND: Parents of adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with cancer offer primary support to their children and often experience their own high levels of distress, affecting parent-AYA communication and quality of life.

OBJECTIVE: To reduce parent distress and improve communication during high-risk cancer treatment, we examined efficacy of a self-care and communication intervention for parents and indirect benefit for AYAs receiving a therapeutic music video (TMV) intervention.

The roles that natural killer (NK) cells play in liver disease and transplantation remain ill-defined. Reports on the matter are often contradictory, and the mechanisms elucidated are complex and dependent on the context of the model tested. Moreover, NK cell attributes, such as receptor protein expression and function differ among species, make study of primate or rodent transplant models challenging. Recent insights into NK function and NK-mediated therapy in the context of cancer therapy may prove applicable to transplantation. Treatment fidelity is the use of methodological strategies to monitor and enhance reliability and validity of behavioral intervention trials. Despite availability of guidelines and checklists, treatment fidelity remains underreported, hindering evaluation, interpretation, and cross-study comparisons. Treatment fidelity is particularly important for music interventions given the inherent complexity of musical stimuli and flexibility required for tailored delivery. The purpose of this paper is to define and describe treatment fidelity strategies for our trial of a music-based play intervention for young children with cancer and parents grounded in the NIH Behavior Change Consortium Treatment Fidelity Recommendations.
