Translation, Cross-Cultural Adaptation, Reliability, And Validity Of The Tamil Version Of Fear-Avoidance Beliefs Questionnaire In Chronic Low Back Pain, Hasini Dayalan, P. Antony Leo Aseer, Soundararajan K Sep 2022

Translation, Cross-Cultural Adaptation, Reliability, And Validity Of The Tamil Version Of Fear-Avoidance Beliefs Questionnaire In Chronic Low Back Pain, Hasini Dayalan, P. Antony Leo Aseer, Soundararajan K

Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice

Background: Excessive fear of movement, restricted physical activity, and cognitive distortions are frequently found with chronic low back pain (CLBP) subjects. The Fear-Avoidance Beliefs Questionnaire (FABQ) is the most well-founded and often used tool to measure fear and avoidance beliefs in CLBP subjects. In India, there is a diversity of culture, educational level, and language. So, there is a need to translate FABQ into the regional language Tamil, which will improve understanding of FABQ and reduce the language barrier of the Tamil population. Objective: To translate, cross-cultural adapt, and investigate the psychometric properties of the Tamil version of FABQ in …

The Interrater Reliability Of The Load And Shift Test For Anterior Shoulder Instability: A Technical Report, Morey J. Kolber, Melissa Carrao Apr 2010

The Interrater Reliability Of The Load And Shift Test For Anterior Shoulder Instability: A Technical Report, Morey J. Kolber, Melissa Carrao

Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice

Background: Shoulder disorders affect up to 67% of the adult population at some point in their lifetime. The shoulder complex ranks third, trailing low back and neck pain, in musculoskeletal disorders for which individuals seek physical rehabilitation. The assessment of shoulder stability is an integral component of the patient examination, as it may assist the clinician in making a diagnosis, measuring improvement or deterioration, and determining functional impairments. Reliable tests and measurements are therefore essential to both the clinician and researcher desiring to objectively monitor disease progression, outcomes, and mobility impairments. Many of the currently used clinical tests for anterior …

Translation And Alternate Forms Reliability Of The Visual Analogue Scale In The Three Major Nigerian Languages, Adesola C. Odole, Aderonke O. Akinpelu Jul 2009

Translation And Alternate Forms Reliability Of The Visual Analogue Scale In The Three Major Nigerian Languages, Adesola C. Odole, Aderonke O. Akinpelu

Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice

Purpose: Our aims were to translate the anchors on the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) into the three major Nigerian Languages and determine the adequacy of the alternate forms reliability of the VAS in these translations. Methods: The anchors on the VAS were translated into Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa languages by linguistic experts and taken through back translation, clinical committee review, and pre–testing. Sixty–seven Hausa, 54 Igbo, and 165 Yoruba Knee/Hip OA patients were assessed on the original and translated versions of VAS. Scores on each translated anchor of the VAS were correlated with scores on the original VAS (anchors in …

The Reliability And Validity Of The Elderly Mobility Scale In The Acute Hospital Setting, Joanne Stacey Nolan, Lucinda Elaine Remilton, Margaret Mary Green Oct 2008

The Reliability And Validity Of The Elderly Mobility Scale In The Acute Hospital Setting, Joanne Stacey Nolan, Lucinda Elaine Remilton, Margaret Mary Green

Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice

This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Elderly Mobility Scale (EMS) in an acute hospital setting. Intra-rater (n=15) and inter-rater (n=18) reliability were investigated using physiotherapists who viewed and scored video-recorded mobility assessments using the EMS on two occasions, one week apart. Latent class analysis of EMS scores showed that neither the occasion of testing (intra-rater reliability) (R2=0.0035, p=0.72), therapist (inter-rater reliability (R2=0.0051, p=1.00), years of experience (R2=0.0058, p=1.00) nor number of EMS assessments previously completed (R2=0.0048, p=1.00) had any impact on the EMS scores. The only factor which impacted on clustering was the EMS score (R2=0.8263, …

Self-Reported Versus Recorded Sleep Position: An Observational Study, Susan J. Gordon, Karen A. Grimmer, Patricia Trott Jan 2004

Self-Reported Versus Recorded Sleep Position: An Observational Study, Susan J. Gordon, Karen A. Grimmer, Patricia Trott

Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice

Background: Patient reports of ‘usual’ and ‘recent’ sleep positions are used by allied health professionals to direct the management of waking and nocturnal musculoskeletal symptoms. However no published studies have determined if self reports of sleep position are valid, consistent or reliable. An observational study was conducted at the Centre for Sleep Research of the University of South Australia. Twelve subjects, four in each of the age groups 18 to 39 years, 40 to 59 years and 60 years and over, without any known sleep disorders or sleep-disturbing medical or emotional problems participated in the study. Subjects spent two non-consecutive …

Effectiveness Of Visual Perceptual Learning On Inter-Therapist Reliability Of Lumbar Spine Mobilization, Chad E. Cook Jul 2003

Effectiveness Of Visual Perceptual Learning On Inter-Therapist Reliability Of Lumbar Spine Mobilization, Chad E. Cook

Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice

Manual therapy is a widely used treatment technique among physical therapists and is effective in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. The theory behind the selection of the appropriate grade of mobilization dictates that proper assessment of the stiffness or resistance of a joint must occur in order to assign the therapeutic intensity. Educational models to teach this theory have shown variable success. In numerous studies, the reliability of clinicians' assessment of stiffness and movement assessment is poor. This present study involved a pre-perceptual educational model designed for 22 practicing physical therapists that performed Grade I, II, III and IV mobilizations …
