Global and timely implementation of TPT in household contacts, however, is dismal. Patients with preexisting chronic liver disease (CLD) may experience a substantial burden from both coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) infection and pandemic-related life disruption. We assessed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on patients with CLD. Patients enrolled in our Global Liver Registry were invited to complete a COVID-19 survey. As of June 2021, 2500 patients (mean age ± SD, 49 ± 13 years; 53% men) from seven countries completed the survey. Of all survey completers, 9.3% had COVID-19. Aims: This study determined the prevalence and risk factors of violence (physical, psychological and sexual) in people living with HIV in Karachi, Pakistan.

Mortality In Patients With Respiratory And Nonrespiratory Carbapenem Resistant-Multidrug Resistant Acinetobacter Infections, Nosheen Nasir, S Mahmood

Background: Mortality from carbapenem-multi-drug resistant Acinetobacter infections may vary according to site of infection. The objective of this study was to compare mortality in respiratory vs. non-respiratory infection with Carbapenem-Multi-drug Resistant Acinetobacter (C-MRAB).

Methods: We conducted a prospective cohort study to compare mortality rate in patients with respiratory vs. nonrespiratory infection (n=30 each).

Results: Results showed that mortality was 40% in the respiratory group compared to 23% in non-respiratory group; the difference was not statistically significant (p=0.165, RR=1.71, CI=0.73-3.75). There was a significantly higher prior admission rate in patients with respiratory infection (p=0.028). Logistic regression did not reveal any modifier …

In Pakistan, Plasmodium vivax contributes to major malaria burden. In this case, a pregnant woman presented with P. vivax infection and which was not cleared by chloroquine, despite adequate treatment. This is probably the first confirmed case of chloroquine-resistant vivax from Pakistan, where severe malaria due to P. vivax is already an emerging problem.
