Type 2 diabetes is a chronic metabolic disorder that requires complex care and involves a variety of self-management decisions on a regular basis to manage the symptoms and avoid complications. The prevalence of type 2 diabetes among the South Asian population is six times higher than their European and white American counterparts (Gujral et al. 2013). Culturally sensitive education may be the key to overcoming the barriers related to standard diabetes patient education and culturally appropriate type 2 diabetes management.
