Examining The Relationship Between Deafness And Mental Health Status: An Analysis Of The Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (Brfss) 2022, Brianna Stroud-Williams

Capstone Experience

Objective: The objective of the research is to examine the association between mental health status as measured by number of mentally healthy days in the past month and deafness and binge drinking.

Methods: The Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) study was conducted via telephone survey in 50 states, including the District of Columbia and US territories. The sample size is 402,156 participants. Univariate, bivariate, and multivariate regressions, odds ratio, and 95% confidence interval were used to measure the data.

The perinatal period can have a profound impact on the mental health of women, their infants, and their families, especially when it comes to depression and anxiety disorders. This study aims to delve into the experiences of perinatal mental health among military spouses stationed overseas, on Naval Air Station Sigonella, Italy, and contribute to the limited research on active-duty military spouses and their perinatal mental health while stationed overseas. Background: Suicide rates in the United States have been on the rise in recent years. As of 2020, suicide was the 12th leading cause of death in the country. Climate change has also contributed to an increase in tornadoes. Studies have found that experiencing a natural disaster is associated with an increase in suicide rates. Studies examining suicide rates and tornadoes, specifically, are virtually nonexistent.

Those residing in rural areas can see increased prevalence of mental illness, and typically face disparities in access and availability of services for mental health. Assessing Quality Of Life And Mental Health Differences Among Young Adult Informal Caregivers And Non-Caregivers In Nebraska, Emily L. Frankel

The goal of this project is to identify differences in quality of life and mental health between younger informal caregivers and non-caregivers, ages 19-40, in Nebraska. To address this goal, a demographic and health assessment battery was disseminated to eligible participants (N=60), comprised of informal caregivers (N=30) and age-, education-, and gender-matched non-caregivers (N=30). The health assessment included reliable and validated questionnaires, including the RAND SF-36, EuroQol 5D, Kessler Psychological Distress Scale, and the General Health Questionnaire.
