Assisted Suicide, Valerie Ontiveros

Nebraska College Preparatory Academy: Senior Capstone Projects

Assisted suicide is when a physician helps a terminally ill patient die without pain. As of right now, it is illegal in most states. Organizations about this issue were organized in the late 1930's (Humphry). According to Pro-Con. Org, 79% of patients requested assisted suicide even before they came terminally ill –if it got to that point.

Many states have different laws on assisted suicide. In no doubt, these patients go through a tremendous amount of pain and no one but themselves should decide when enough is enough. Technological advances have allowed this generation to help aid a person when …

A comprehensive and straight forward description of what exactly steroids are and what they do to the body is described by Gary Wadler, a health major at the New York University School of Medicine, he comments: “When the receptor sites in their bodies, which don’t have much testosterone in them, suddenly are presented with a lot of testosterone, they get activated…The unbalance of hormones increases the red blood cell formations... They’ll get more muscular, more defined. They’ll lose some fat, and increase their lean body mass, [they’ll] get stronger”. Although anabolic steroids and other hormones are consumed by many athletes …

Nebraska College Preparatory Academy: Senior Capstone Projects

One out of every five adults in the United States has a disability. That is about 63.976 million people, yet, ableism is a common type of discrimination. This paper is an attempt to create awareness of ableism and its negative effects by providing testimonies and methods that will help people with disabilities live a life without prejudice.

The United States is nowhere close to being an ableist free society and it will remain this way until people stop using ableist language as an insult or to mock someone, until mocking the disabled is not a media entertainment, until public figures …

Dogs: A Prescription For Health Issues?, Denise Magallon

Nebraska College Preparatory Academy: Senior Capstone Projects

The human-‐animal bond has been seen throughout many generations. Pet owners, especially those who own dogs, are known to live a different lifestyle than non-‐pet owners. However, the individuals who can receive the most benefits from dogs are those with certain psychological and physical health issues. Humans who suffer from diseases find that owning a dog is very helpful and can even improve and/or treat their illness.

Although dogs are not one-‐hundred percent effective in curing all health conditions, they are still very useful and can improve health even by the slightest result. There is much medical evidence that proves …

Privatization Of Biomedical Research: A Short Term Answer With Long Term Consequences, Frederick Azalekor

Nebraska College Preparatory Academy: Senior Capstone Projects

Biomedical research owned by the government is now available to be owned by private institutions. This results in stagnant innovations because researchers have trouble with all the restrictions that are placed by private institutions. Privatization of biomedical research has short term positive effects but its negative effects are overarching and disastrous. One way to combat this, is for licenses to be deployed slowly with future consequences in mind.

• Privatization has short term benefits but long term disadvantages are disastrous. • To reduce damaging effect, privatization must be deployed slowly and carefully. • Patents or proprietary ownership must be given …

Controversial And Non-Controversial Topics Of Nanotechnology, Phillip Astorino

Nebraska College Preparatory Academy: Senior Capstone Projects

Advancements in medicine have allowed people to heal the sick. Even though these accomplishments in medicine have cured some of the problems, there are those that even medicine cannot fix. So we look to science for help, and there is one field that is close to revoluAonizing the world with their advancements in technology. This field has a specific name: Nanotechnology. Does American Society Blame Fast Food Too Much For Obesity?, Gabriella Barrios

Nebraska College Preparatory Academy: Senior Capstone Projects

Obesity is a growing epidemic that could become the leading cause of death in American society. Society sees it and does nothing about it. I found that American society blames fast food too much for obesity, that we are doing nothing about it, and the restaurants are reacting by making changes.

Drug Testing Government Assistance Recipients, Justin Galles Apr 2015

Drug Testing Government Assistance Recipients, Justin Galles

Nebraska College Preparatory Academy: Senior Capstone Projects

Eligibility for government assistance is based on income levels and is generally given to single parents and lower income families. Government assistance programs like welfare, SNAP (food stamps), and unemployment all help support people who have less income than what is necessary to support themselves and or their families. Programs like welfare and unemployment give checks that can be cashed and used at the discretion of the recipient. Who is to say recipients aren’t spending tax payer dollars on illegal drugs? People aren’t going to admit to government officials that they use illegal drugs so to be sure that they …

Drug Policy In Sports, Autumn Wimbush Apr 2015

Drug Policy In Sports, Autumn Wimbush

Nebraska College Preparatory Academy: Senior Capstone Projects

I always wanted to look at how drugs impacted high school athletes and how many of them actually start using drugs. With the research I found, I hoped to analyze why athletes aren’t gettng tested and why associations aren’t trying to test them. With my research I found that most leagues and associaNons don’t take the right precautions to testing their athletes. High school athletes feel pressured to do better because of scholarships and competitions. The pressure causes many athletes to start using performance-‐enhancing drugs and several leagues are still trying to figure out how to end the epidemic.
